Summary
Check color accuracy and be ready to dry the spool before printing.
Strengths
- Low cost per kilogram; the manufacturer page lists “As low as $13.99, Regular Price $17.99” (2026).
- Good bed adhesion with minimal warping.
- Low stringing and a good print success rate.
- Works with standard PLA settings on Bambu Lab and Creality printers.
- Successful use on high-speed printers.
- Low odor during printing.
Weaknesses
- Color mismatch on some colors, especially Fire Engine Red.
- Occasional wet or poorly wound spools.
- Bed temperature tuning sometimes needed for first-layer adhesion.
- Mechanical strength and layer adhesion may trail PLA+.
- No independent instrumented test of this exact filament was found.
- The published mechanical numbers come from eSUN’s own specimens.

Full research notes and sources
Print settings and temperatures
Manufacturer guidance is 210-230 C at the nozzle and 45-60 C on the bed, with 100% fan and a heated bed required. The TDS test basis used 220 C, 65 C bed, 0.4 mm nozzle, Bambu P1S and OrcaSlicer 2.1.0 beta. Owners report good results around 200-205 C nozzle and 60 C bed, and one Creality forum owner used 220 C, 60 C and 150 mm/s. Bed temperature guidance conflicts between sources, so plan to tune the first layer.
Strength and heat limits
The published numbers describe a standard PLA: 64.27 MPa tensile strength in XY, 53.65 C heat distortion, no UV resistance and no acid/alkali resistance. GoodPrints3D treats it as an everyday filament for prototypes and utility parts, and explicitly not for heat, outdoor or high-stress use. Buyers needing tougher or heat-resistant parts should choose PLA+ or PETG instead.
Color, moisture and winding
Color accuracy can differ from product photos, and Fire Engine Red in particular is often reported darker or more brick-like. Some spools arrive wet or benefit from pre-drying despite vacuum sealing; drying at 50 C for 8-12 h is specified. Winding quality varies and tangles, including end-of-spool tangles, are reported. An owner summary reports diameter of 1.74-1.76 mm, though no official tolerance is published.
Running costs and shipping
There is no subscription or proprietary consumable. The main ownership costs are drying time and dry storage. The manufacturer page lists eSUN US shipping at $5.99, free over $99. An owner-feedback summary describes the filament as priced around $15 per kilogram.
Is it worth it?
Value is strongest when you need many spools and accept standard-PLA limits; it is weaker if exact color matching or maximum strength is required. At low per-kilogram cost it suits prototypes, models, organizers and high-volume printing where cost and speed matter more than toughness or heat resistance.
Which model this is
This page covers eSUN PLA Basic, a modified PLA sold on 1 kg spools in 1.75 mm diameter, listed in about 29 colors. The manufacturer page is a single product family page with no separate model number or revision code, and the TDS is dated Feb 2026, version 1.0. The seed Amazon listing is ASIN B0CX17W7DX. Do not confuse it with eSUN standard PLA, PLA+, PLA-HS, PLA Matte, PLA Refill, Basic PETG, Basic ABS, or Bambu Lab PLA Basic, which are distinct products.
