Summary

A high-back all-mesh office chair with a headrest and one of the widest adjustability sets in its price band, and US dealers sell it well below the manufacturer’s list price. Check the headrest fit before you buy if you are shorter than 5'2" or taller than 6'5", where it stops working.

Strengths

  • The all-mesh back stays breathable through long sitting sessions.
  • Owners with lower-back trouble single out the lumbar support.
  • 8-way arms, a seat-depth slider, back-angle and back-height adjustment, and tilt tension in one chair.
  • BTOD rates the GEN2 arm pads alongside the Aeron’s.
  • BTOD reports Eurotech honoring warranty claims on chairs over 10 years old with free parts.
  • A Reddit owner reports more than 6 years of 10-plus-hour daily use.

Weaknesses

  • The mesh seat can feel firm at first; on the GEN1 it caused tailbone soreness for one long-term tester.
  • The headrest pushes the head forward for users under 5'2".
  • The lumbar is not independently positionable; it rides on the back-height adjustment.
  • The backrest may not reach a fully upright 90°.
  • The polished aluminum base scratches more easily than a powder-coated one.
  • The multi-layer mesh grabs fibers and collects dust, so it needs vacuuming with a brush adapter.

Adjustability and the GEN2 changes

The chair adjusts almost everywhere: 8-way armrests (height, pivot, width, depth), a seat-depth slider, back-angle adjustment, six-position ratcheting back height, adjustable lumbar tension, synchro-tilt with infinite lock, and tilt-tension control.

GEN2 fixed most of the original’s complaints. The seat was rebuilt with a flatter frame and no front pad, the lumbar foam backing was dropped, the mesh was upgraded to T168 with 12-zone support, and arm width adjustment was added. BTOD, which has sold more than 10,000 Ergohuman chairs, says the GEN2 eliminates the GEN1’s sagging and that its arm pads are comparable to the Aeron’s.

Headrest fit

The headrest is the feature that separates this chair from the Aeron, and it is also the part to think hardest about. It does not go low enough for users under 5'2", who report it pushing the head forward. Taller users over 6'5" can find it sitting on the shoulders. BTOD recommends ordering without a headrest outside that range, which means the low-back ME8ERGLO-GEN2 instead. The headrest pivot is also still easy to knock out of position, though GEN2 holds a setting better than GEN1.

Warranty, parts and upkeep

Warranty terms differ by region. US dealers advertise a limited lifetime warranty on the frame and components with 5 years on the mesh. UK and EU dealers advertise 10 years on the frame and 5 years on the mechanism, armrests, casters, gas lift and mesh. One owner reports hearing the US warranty was cut to 10 years on the frame and 5 years on mechanical parts; nobody has confirmed that, so check the terms with the dealer you buy from.

Parts are sold rather than repaired in place. Human Solution sells a replacement mesh headrest for $95 and a replacement mesh seat for $250. Vacuum the mesh with a brush adapter rather than wiping it; the gas cylinder is a wear item.

Is it worth it?

At $750–870 from US dealers the chair is a competitive premium mesh chair, with the headrest, the adjustability and the long warranty all included. BTOD’s reviewer puts it against the Aeron under $1,000. From $870 toward $1,000 the case thins and you are weighing it against the Aeron’s longer track record and 12-year warranty. Above $1,000 it is hard to justify unless the all-mesh build and headrest are exactly what you want. The manufacturer’s $1,550 list price sits far above what dealers charge and is rarely the real purchase price.

Which model this is

This is the second-generation ME7ERG, the high-back all-mesh chair with a headrest; the listing for this model is ASIN B0019CVUA2. Eurotech also builds a low-back ME8ERGLO-GEN2 without a headrest and an all-leather LE9ERG-GEN2, which share the mechanism but are different chairs.
