Summary
Check the base before you buy: owners say it is too light to feel safe.
Strengths
- Glass body with water-level markings you can read while filling.
- Owners call heating rapid, and the maker claims a full boil in under 8 minutes.
- Blue interior light while heating, and a one-touch pop-up lid.
- Cordless serving from a 360° swivel base with hidden cord storage.
- Auto shut-off and boil-dry protection at entry-level money.
- About $18.99 at Best Buy, Walmart and QVC.
Weaknesses
- The base is light, and at least one owner says it does not feel safe to use.
- One r/fixit owner reports a unit that would not power on with a good outlet and cord; no failure rate is published.
- No measured boil time or energy figure exists for this exact model.
- The manufacturer’s description mentions a temperature dial this kettle does not have — copied listing text, not a feature.
- The one-year warranty excludes the cord, and the manual tells owners not to repair it themselves.
- The manufacturer discloses a California Prop 65 lead warning.

Full research notes and sources
Boil time and energy use
The maker claims a full boil in under 8 minutes, but no professional test of the exact EKT1001 exists — nothing from RTINGS, Wirecutter, Tom’s Guide, CNET or PCMag. The only independent measurement located is Shouldit’s test of the different 1.7 L EKT-602. It scored 7/10, did not recommend the kettle, and named slow boiling and high energy use as the key detriments. It measured 10 minutes 4 seconds to boil 1.5 L and 161 Wh of energy, drawing 960 W at 114 V, with peak noise of 68.3 dB. Those are related-model signals, not EKT1001 results.
What owners say
These are marketplace summaries, not independent tests. I just don’t feel safe using it." In r/fixit, one owner reported a kettle that suddenly would not power on with a working outlet and cord, and asked whether there is an internal fuse. Nobody has published a failure rate, so treat the no-power reports as a known annoyance rather than a defect.
Warranty, repairs and running costs
The warranty is one year, limited, and valid only with a dated proof of purchase from an authorized retailer; the cord is excluded. The manual tells owners to switch the machine off and not attempt self-repair, and to get an RA number from customer service. No parts catalog, descaling schedule or repair program for the EKT1001 was found, so treat repairability as limited. Running cost is electricity only — no consumables or filter subscription.
Is it worth it?
Best Buy, Walmart and QVC list the black 1 L at $18.99. The manufacturer’s own page showed $16.99 in February 2025. eBay asked $26.69 from a third-party seller; Bed Bath & Beyond listed $25.64. At about $17–19 this is a fair basic kettle with glass, safety cut-offs and cordless serving. Above the high $20s the case weakens: there is no measured EKT1001 performance data, and the only independent Elite glass test was unenthusiastic. If temperature control or keep-warm matters, the 1.2 L Elite kettle is the step up.
Which model this is
This page covers the Elite Gourmet 1 L glass cordless kettle, model EKT1001, in black (EKT1001B) and mint (EKT1001M). Retailers use the color suffixes for the same hardware; research found no mechanical difference between the colors. Do not confuse it with the 1.2 L adjustable-temperature kettle (EKT1220 family), the 1.7 L glass kettle (EKT-602), the gooseneck EKT3001, the 1.8 L stainless EKT1821 or the 1 L EKT0501 — those are different models with different wattage and features.
The mint colorway’s listing is ASIN B0GPT1F5HV.
