ELEGOO Water-Washable Resin V2.0: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-17
Summary
Owners most often report prints gripping the build plate so hard they have to be pried off, and models falling off supports and staying in the vat. The main recurring cost is resin itself: a 25 g part with supports uses about $0.57 of material at the $22.99/kg ELEGOO US price (October 2026). It is a good buy at $22.99 for a 1 kg bottle; above $25.99 per kg the named alternatives become worth comparing.
Common problems and fixes
- Prints stuck hard to the build plate — a December 2024 Saturn 4 Ultra owner had to pry prints off with excessive force, and reducing bottom exposure then made prints fall or stick to the vat film; a November 2025 owner found about 10 seconds sometimes eased removal but detached a separate print. Fix: start from the recommended printer/material profile, run exposure tests, and check plate level, temperature, supports and cure before blaming the bottle. [6][7]
- Models fall off supports and stay in the vat — a July 2025 Saturn owner reported strong initial-layer adhesion with V2.0 Ceramic Grey but failed supports, and an October 2024 Saturn 4 Ultra owner reported miniatures falling away from their supports after earlier successes. Fix: verify support geometry, orientation, leveling and exposure together, since one report cannot prove the resin was at fault. [8][9]
- Support divots after removal — a May 2026 Saturn 16K user reported small pits in models after removing supports, even after warm-water pretreatment. [17]
- Wash water is hazardous waste — water rinses uncured resin but the dirty water must never go into a sink, toilet, yard or storm drain; both Formlabs and Phrozen say to keep it in a labeled, lidded container and use the local hazardous-waste route. Fix: set aside dedicated wash and rinse containers. [3][4]
- Drying takes time and moisture cracks parts — prints must dry fully before the UV post-cure, because moisture trapped in cavities can contribute to cracking; water washing is not automatically faster end to end than solvent washing. [3]
- No universal exposure settings — exposure must match color, printer, layer thickness, film, temperature and geometry; a third-party table gives about 2.8–3.2 s normal and 25–30 s bottom at 0.05 mm layers on several Saturn generations, with some Mars models differing. Fix: run a calibration print for each printer and color using ELEGOO’s setting sheet and wiki. [5][15][16]
- No published material properties — V2.0 has no published viscosity, tensile, hardness or shrinkage figures, so settings cannot be borrowed from other resins and treated as equivalent. [1]
- Warranty conflict — the store banner reads “Up to 1-Year Warranty” but ELEGOO’s refund policy lists resin as a consumable with no warranty; ask ELEGOO in writing what remedies apply to a sealed bottle that arrives leaked, mislabeled or defective. [2]
Parts and consumables
- ELEGOO Water-Washable Resin V2.0 — 1 kg bottle $22.99, 5 kg pack $85.99 (about $17.20/kg) and 12 kg pack $189.99 (about $15.83/kg) on ELEGOO US (October 2026). No manufacturer SKU is published for individual colors; reorder by version, color and bottle mass. Resin is the main material consumed per print, successful or failed; replacement depends on usage, not a schedule. [1][13][14]
- Resin printer vat release film (FEP/PFA/ACF) — belongs to the printer, not the bottle; no universal film cost or change interval is reported. [6][8]
Yearly running cost
The largest continuing cost is liquid resin, then failed prints and supports, protective disposables, washing and waste handling, and printer/wash/cure energy. There is no subscription. At the checked ELEGOO US price of $22.99/kg (October 2026), a part-plus-supports consuming 25 g of resin costs about $0.57, 50 g about $1.15 and 100 g about $2.30. For scale, using 2 kg, 5 kg or 10 kg of resin in a year works out to about $45.98, $114.95 or $229.90 at the single-bottle rate, or $85.99 for a 5 kg pack and about $15.83/kg with the 12 kg pack. Electricity, wash-water disposal and PPE have no universal price in the checked sources. [1][13][14]
When it is a good buy
At $22.99 for a 1 kg bottle from ELEGOO US (October 2026) it is a reasonable single-bottle trial for water-cleanable detail work. At $18–$20 per kg or lower it is attractive. At $25–$27 per kg, compare Anycubic Water-Wash Resin 2.0 ($25.99, Anycubic US) or ELEGOO’s 8K Water-Wash V2.0 ($25.99, ELEGOO US). Above $28 per kg, avoid paying the premium while ELEGOO direct lists $22.99. For toughness-first parts, ELEGOO’s ABS-Like V3.0 at $17.99 (ELEGOO US) is the better category fit, with traditional solvent cleaning. [1][10][12][11]
