Summary
A 2021 entry-level MSLA resin printer built around a 4K monochrome LCD, sold fully assembled for hobbyists and miniature makers.
Strengths
- The sandblasted build plate holds prints well and releases them easily.
- Fully assembled and quick to level with the included A4-paper method.
- A large owner community and a simple CHITUBOX workflow.
- One owner reports trouble-free use since the 2021 launch.
- A single-year machine warranty is standard for the class.
Weaknesses
- The mainboard shipped locked to CHITUBOX’s encrypted format; Lychee support only arrived in 2022.
- No built-in air filter and no hood seal, so resin fumes and ventilation are entirely on you.
- No resin is included, and the FEP film in the vat is a consumable that must be replaced periodically.
- No Wi-Fi, no camera and no remote printing; a USB stick is the only workflow.
- At or near current entry-level pricing it is weak value against the newer Mars 4 and Mars 5 series.
- Owner reports are mixed, including one unit with chronic intermittent print failures.

Workflow, consumables and upkeep
The Mars 3 uses the CHITUBOX slicer and USB-stick transfer, with no Wi-Fi or remote printing. CHITUBOX was initially the only compatible slicer through its encrypted CTB format, and Lychee Slicer support arrived in 2022 after an SDK release. The machine ships without resin, and the FEP film in the vat is a wear item that needs periodic replacement; ELEGOO publishes official guides for replacing both the FEP film and the 6.6-inch 4K mono LCD. Resin printing needs ventilation, gloves and IPA handling regardless of the printer, and the manual asks for periodic leveling checks after any build-plate change.
Reliability and warranty
Owner signals are mixed. One Reddit owner reports trouble-free use since the 2021 launch, while another describes chronic intermittent failures where only the test print or one or two prints succeed; no systematic failure-rate data exists, so treat these as anecdotes rather than a defect rate. ELEGOO’s warranty is one year for the machine and three months for the FEP and LCD consumables. The user-serviceable parts are the FEP film, the build plate and the vat; the LCD and mainboard are not user-repairable.
Is it worth it?
By 2026 the Mars 3 is a five-year-old design, and ELEGOO’s Mars 4 and Mars 5 series add auto-leveling and higher resolution. It remains a capable entry resin printer for miniatures when you find it at a clear discount, or used and open-box, but at or near current-generation entry pricing it is weak value. Recurring costs are 405 nm resin, IPA or water-washable resin, FEP replacement films, nitrile gloves and masks.
Which model this is
This page covers the ELEGOO Mars 3, a 4K mono-LCD MSLA resin printer released in 2021, sold in the US under ASIN B09MFDP6KN. Do not confuse it with the Mars 3 Pro (a different build volume), the later Mars 3 Ultra (a different machine), the 2K Mars, Mars 2 and Mars 2 Pro, or the Mars 4 and Mars 5 series.
