Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A compact 4K mono-LCD resin printer for miniatures and small, high-detail parts, with a 6.6-inch LCD, a 143.43 × 89.6 × 175 mm build volume and USB-only printing.

Strengths

  • Two-screw leveling with a sandblasted plate is easy to set up.
  • The replaceable 9H glass protector shields the LCD, the printer’s main wear part.
  • The externally mounted charcoal filter makes swaps quick when odor control matters.
  • The COB plus Fresnel light source spreads the 405 nm beam evenly.
  • First-party parts, firmware and manuals are published per model.

Weaknesses

  • USB-only, with no Wi-Fi or network printing.
  • The air purifier reduces odor but does not eliminate it.
  • The mono LCD is a consumable; a replacement runs about $50 for roughly 2,000 hours.
  • Documentation and safety guidance are thin.
  • Resin in the vat reaches about 43 °C on a long print, and the fans are audible.

Which model this is

This page covers the ELEGOO Mars 3 Pro, a compact MSLA resin printer ELEGOO markets as the Mars 3 Pro 4K High Cost Performance Resin Printer, system EL3D-3.0.1. The US listing is ASIN B0B4VCW817.

Prints, light and speed

The core spec set is solid for the class: a 6.6-inch 4K monochrome LCD at 35 µm XY resolution, 0.00125 mm Z accuracy, 0.01–0.2 mm layers, a 143.43 × 89.6 × 175 mm build volume and a COB plus Fresnel 405 nm light source. ELEGOO claims 92% light uniformity from 36 integrated LEDs; nobody has published an independent light-uniformity or accuracy measurement for this exact model. Print speed is quoted at 30–50 mm/h on the US page and 30–70 mm/h on the EU page, and neither is a measured throughput. Printing is USB only, so add a card reader or keep a stick handy.

Hands-on coverage is positive but not instrumented. Tom’s Hardware gave it an Editor’s Choice and called the prints stunning; All3DP said it printed for hours without heating up or crashing; 3DWithUs rated it 4.5; Age of Miniatures, testing miniatures, reported failed prints are very rare and used 2.5 s exposures at 0.05 mm layers. There is no lab measurement of XY accuracy or light uniformity for the Pro.

Owner threads add caution signals. One owner fixed a Mars 3 Pro screen issue by swapping the screen; the mono LCD is a consumable. Another reports center print failures traced to an uncleaned or loose FEP sheet. One reviewer traced a slightly bent build plate to overtightened leveling nuts, fixed with a paper shim, and says a search shows it is not common. The included USB stick is poor and caused failed prints for one reviewer, and the demo rook model is hard to remove.

Running costs and upkeep

Resin is not included. Ongoing costs are 405 nm resin, replacement FEP/PFA release film, activated-carbon filters and isopropyl alcohol, plus the LCD screen as a wear item. The Mars 3 replacement screen costs about $50 with roughly 2,000 hours of life. ELEGOO publishes firmware, manuals and spare parts per model, and sells build platforms, resin tanks, filters and screens. Warranty terms are inconsistent: the EU page advertises up to two years, the US page shows six months for resin printers, and older pages list one year for the machine with three months on consumables, so confirm the term in writing at purchase.

Is it worth it?

ELEGOO’s US store lists the Mars 3 Pro at $129.99, down from a $163.00 list, as of October 2026. That is below the $239.99 coupon price of May 2023 and far under the $350 launch price, and it can undercut the non-Pro’s usual street price at deep sales. At or under $150 it is a strong entry pick for miniatures and small parts; at $151–200 the newer ELEGOO Mars 4 and Mars 5 and Saturn models compete. Above $200 the Pro is hard to defend.
