Summary
A 130 W enclosed filament dryer that rotates two spools of 1.75 mm filament so they dry evenly, aimed at anyone printing moisture-sensitive nylon, PC or TPU. Check the temperature variant before you buy: the manufacturer lists 80 °C while the one independent review states 70 °C as the maximum.
Strengths
- Two spools dry at once in one enclosed chamber, expandable to a larger spool with the extension kit.
- The 360° rotating platform reduces the hot-spot and cold-spot imbalance of static dryers.
- Nine material presets plus three custom slots, three heating-power modes and adjustable time, humidity and temperature.
- Dual rear feed ports let filament run straight from the chamber into a printer.
- Humidity-hold mode, power-loss memory, a closable exhaust and an LCD readable in °C or °F.
- The independent review found the thermal system ramps up quickly and the presets behave predictably.
Weaknesses
- The rotation motor is rated for 1500 h, after which rotation stops; EIBOS sells a replacement.
- No warranty term is published on the product page, only a support email.
- The 80 °C rating is qualified at 25 °C ambient, and the independent review calls 70 °C the maximum.
- The display’s temperature and humidity are single-point readings and do not report filament moisture.
- Rotation wears the spool edges and sheds plastic powder inside, so periodic cleaning and gear lubrication are required.
- Power draw tops 100 W while actively heating, and the reviewer lists overall size as a con.

Which model this is
This page covers the EIBOS 3D Filament Dryer Polyphemus, sold at shop.eibos3d.com; the Amazon listing is ASIN B0CYRW889Y. EIBOS also sells the Series X Tetras, Dyas and Easdry, the Cyclopes, and 70 °C versions of the Polyphemus at the same headline price, so confirm the temperature variant before ordering. The old eibos.com domain is not the manufacturer; it is a suspended parking page.
What the one independent test found
Only one long-form independent review exists: Nikktech, published 2026-04-07, which gave the dryer its Golden Award. It found the controlled thermal system ramps up quickly, the presets give predictable behaviour without constant tuning, and the LCD, adjustable time, humidity and temperature, the nine-plus-three profiles, the dual rear feed ports, and the included motor and roller were strengths. Its two cons were overall size and power consumption above 100 W during active heating.
Its central caveat is the rotation. Nikktech agrees rotation reduces hot-spot and cold-spot imbalance, but calls the real-world gain incremental rather than a dramatic leap over simpler static designs, and states his own thermal imaging may not be as accurate as EIBOS’s. No independent party has published a chamber-uniformity measurement, so EIBOS’s claimed 1 °C spread versus 36 °C without rotation stays a manufacturer figure.
Temperature, sensors and the display
The maximum temperature is contested. EIBOS’s tech-spec table and the store say 30–80 °C, but the independent review states 70 °C, and the store also sells a 70 °C variant at the same price with identical listing copy. If you need above 70 °C for PA, PC or ABS work, confirm the actual unit before buying. The manufacturer also notes the 80 °C figure assumes a 25 °C room.
The screen is not a moisture meter. EIBOS states the displayed temperature and humidity are single-sensor point readings that approximate only the air near the filament and say nothing about the filament’s moisture content, and it recommends a lab-grade air thermometer rather than a household or infrared one. Separately, the marketing line about the PTC elements quickly reaching 200 °C describes the heater, not a drying temperature.
Motor life, wear and upkeep
The signature rotating platform has a finite life: the motor is rated at 1500 h, after which rotation stops. A replacement is sold by EIBOS and the motor is user-replaceable, though the FAQ and the review disagree on whether a spare motor ships in the box.
Rotation has mechanical costs that EIBOS documents. A rotating spool rubs the shaft, wears its edges and sheds plastic powder inside the unit, so periodic internal cleaning is expected; the gears need lubricating per EIBOS’s instructions; and rough spool edges or mold lines can make the spool slip, which EIBOS says is fixed by deburring and applying printer adhesive or damping oil to the shaft.
Price and running costs
EIBOS listed the 80 °C US variant at $99.99 against a $149.99 regular price in October 2026, and the Polyphemus+ 3KG extension package at $109.99. The 70 °C versions carry the same headline prices. Several regional variants and most 70 °C combinations were sold out.
Running costs are desiccant and electricity. At the 130 W rating a full 24 hours would draw 3.12 kWh, though no average draw or duty cycle is published; the reviewer measured above 100 W during active heating. The expansion part for larger spools is presented on the product page as a printable file, so confirm what the package actually includes.
Is it worth it?
At $99.99 the Polyphemus is priced where its evidence gap is tolerable: two-spool capacity, a documented replaceable motor, and one favourable independent review with a clear-eyed verdict. The $109.99 extension package is reasonable only if larger spools are a real need. Near the $149.99 regular price it is hard to justify, because the warranty is unpublished, the temperature uniformity is unverified, and the rotation motor’s remaining life on a used unit is unknowable. Confirm the temperature variant, whether the expansion part is physical, and the warranty in writing before ordering.
