EarFun Air Pro 4: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-05
Summary
The most common complaints are faint hiss or electronic noise, pairing and reconnection trouble, and a bud that stops charging, all of them reported across several independent owner threads without any published defect rate. Fit matters more than any setting, because the stock tips do not seal for every ear and both bass and ANC improve with a better tip. There is nothing to buy on a schedule: no subscription and no proprietary consumable, so the running cost per year is near zero until worn tips or a replacement bud come due. It is a strong buy at $55 or less, still reasonable through about $65, and from roughly $75 up it is worth pricing the newer Air Pro 4+ first. [1][7][16]
Common problems and fixes
- Faint hiss or electronic noise — several separate owner threads describe low-level static or hiss, most audible in quiet rooms or with noise cancelling on, and one owner heard it on a replacement pair as well. EarFun’s own FAQ says slight background noise in very quiet rooms can be normal with ANC. There is no proven fix; clean the speaker mesh and reset and re-pair, and if it persists use the warranty while it lasts. Incidence is unknown, so treat it as a recurring characteristic rather than a measured fault rate. [1][8][9][10]
- Pairing and reconnection trouble — owners report forgotten pairings, delayed reconnects, phone-specific failures and stutter with high-bandwidth codec or game mode combinations, including on Motorola and Oppo phones. The documented workaround is the manufacturer’s own: turn off LDAC, game mode, aptX and multipoint when connections are unstable, then reset and re-pair. [1][3][7][15]
- A single bud stops charging or reads 0% — independent reports cover failures after a few weeks, after months, and a one-year owner who needed a replacement after about six months. Clean the charging contacts, confirm each bud actually seats and charges, and expect no published failure rate; the owners who used the warranty report very fast replacement. [11][12][13][19]
- Stock tips do not seal — fit changes bass and ANC more than any setting, and some owners need third-party tips to hold a seal, especially during movement. Five tip sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL) ship in the box, so try all of them before blaming the driver; if bass still sounds thin, move up a size. [3][14]
- Low or silent output on one side — the manufacturer’s troubleshooting guidance for low or silent output is careful mesh cleaning plus a reset and re-pair cycle, and the case contacts need occasional cleaning as well. Keep the earbuds dry despite the IPX5 rating, because the charging case is not waterproof. [1][3]
- The app is busier than it needs to be — TechRadar found the ANC choices confusing and the number of EQ presets excessive, described the default tuning as bass-forward with recessed mids and treble until you change it, and heard occasional peaking. This is a tuning and interface complaint rather than a fault, and it costs nothing to fix beyond an afternoon in the EQ settings. [5]
- Nothing is user-repairable — the earbuds and case are not meaningfully repairable, batteries and charging electronics are not sold as routine user-service parts, and no official spare-battery programme was found. An aged battery therefore ends as a replacement event rather than a repair. [1][19]
Parts and consumables
- Replacement ear tips — five silicone sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL) come in the box and are the wear item most owners replace first, because a better seal is the fix for weak bass and weak ANC. No third-party tip price with a store and month-year was verified in the sources. [3][14]
- Replacement earbud — the pair is not repairable, so a single dead bud or an aged battery is handled as a replacement earbud, normally through warranty: one long-term owner had a unit replaced after about six months and reported very fast service, and another owner reported the same. No out-of-warranty replacement price with a store and month-year was verified. [11][12]
- Batteries (54 mAh per earbud, 600 mAh in the case) — fixed cells, not user-serviceable, and no official battery-replacement programme was found, so there is no priced part to buy. [1]
- USB-C charging cable — one is included with the charging case; a spare cable or a Qi pad is the only extra accessory most owners need, since the case also charges wirelessly. [1]
Yearly running cost
Not enough data. There is no subscription and no proprietary consumable, so normal listening costs nothing per year beyond the occasional third-party ear tip, and eventually a replacement earbud once the cells age. Charging is negligible: input is DC 5V/1A, with about 1 hour for the earbuds, about 2 hours for the case over USB-C and about 3.5 hours wirelessly. No owner-reported electricity figure and no verified third-party tip price was found, so no annual total can be computed. [1][3][12]
When it is a good buy
The bands that hold up: at $55 or less the feature set and measured battery life are exceptional; $56–65 is still very good and one of the strongest feature-per-dollar ANC options; $66–75 is good but you should compare; $76–85 is weak unless the alternatives are materially dearer; above $85 the original Air Pro 4 is poor value for 2026, against a 2024 launch price of $89.99. Two named alternatives matter most. The newer EarFun Air Pro 4+ is the closer sibling and sold for $74.98 on Sep 15, 2026, so once the original reaches the mid-$70s, price the 4+ first. The Soundcore Liberty 4 NC has recently been around $55–70 in US market listings and enters direct competition in the same band, and is the choice if you would rather not deal with the app’s ANC and codec options. No EarFun-store or other non-Amazon price was checked, so these are value bands rather than quoted shop prices. [4][16][17]
