Summary
An all-metal 1.75 mm hotend rated to 300 °C with the supplied thermistor, aimed at printers that need higher-temperature materials than a PTFE-lined hotend allows. Check heater voltage (12 V or 24 V) and printer mount compatibility before ordering.
Strengths
- Rated to 300 °C with the supplied thermistor, opening up polycarbonate, nylon, Ultem and PEEK printing.
- All-metal heatbreak removes PTFE from the hot zone for higher-temperature work.
- Groove mount and M6 nozzle thread fit a wide range of printers and nozzles.
- Large parts ecosystem: E3D sells spares for every component.
- Proven design first released in 2014, widely adopted in the Voron community.
- Default kit includes the silicone sock, fan, duct, fixings and PTFE tube.
Weaknesses
- Reaching the top temperatures needs a plated copper block and a PT100/PT1000 sensor, not the stock parts.
- The silicone sock limits operation to 260 °C.
- No official mount for some printers; owners report printing or sourcing their own.
- One owner could not print PLA with a titanium heatbreak and reverted to a 4.1 heatbreak.
- E3D lists a 6 Month Guarantee on the product page.
- Clone parts are common; off-brand replicas may not match tolerances.

Temperature and materials
Printing above about 240 °C with hardened steel nozzles in an aluminium block is not recommended, and the sock caps operation at 260 °C. Reaching 500 °C requires a plated copper heater block and a PT100/PT1000 sensor. E3D states the V6 handles PLA, PETG, ABS and higher-temperature materials such as polycarbonate, Ultem, nylon and PEEK. A Duet3D thread confirms community practice of using a PT100 for polycarbonate near 300 °C.
Installation and compatibility
The kit is not plug-and-play for every printer. The heater variant must match the printer power supply: 12 V or 24 V, with resistances from 4.2–5.7 Ω (12 V, 30 W) to 16.7–22.6 Ω (24 V, 30 W). Hot-tighten the nozzle at printing temperature around 285 °C with no gap between heatbreak and nozzle, and apply thermal compound only to the long cold section of the heatbreak.
Owner reports
One long-term owner reported consistent extrusion for about 2.5 years before a thermistor wire broke, and another reported 100+ hours of PLA printing with no jams using a Titan extruder. Cautions include PLA clogging with titanium heatbreaks, heatsinks too short for some printers (Anycubic Mega) and PTFE-guide melting if overheated during a clog clear. Common troubleshooting items from E3D: inadequate cooling, misconfigured retraction, nozzle blockages, bad filament, misconfigured thermistor, improperly inserted PTFE and poor extruder design.
Is it worth it?
E3D’s UK store lists the standard kit from £49.65 (direct drive, no extras) to £66.80 (Bowden, pre-assembled).
Which model this is
This page covers the E3D V6 All-metal HotEnd in the 1.75 mm filament variant, sold as a full kit in 12 V or 24 V heater variants and Bowden or direct-drive configurations. E3D also sells heatsinks, heatbreaks, nozzles, heater cartridges and thermistors separately. Variants within the family include the Standard V6 with an aluminium heater block and the V6 Gold with a gold-plated copper heater block. Do not confuse it with the E3D Lite6, which is PTFE-lined and limited to 245 °C, or with Volcano, Cyclops, Chimera and Kraken multi-extrusion hotends. The kit’s Amazon listing is ASIN B00NAK9JFO.
