Summary

A refreshed cordless stick vacuum with 150 AW suction, up to 60 minutes of Eco runtime and a swappable battery, built for buyers who want Dyson cleaning power without paying for lasers or auto modes. Check whether the 0.54 L bin and the lack of a hard-floor head fit your home before buying.

Strengths

  • 150 AW suction is a big jump over the older V8’s 115 AW and holds up well on carpet and pet hair.
  • Up to 60 minutes of Eco runtime covers a full five-bedroom house on one charge.
  • The swappable seven-cell battery is a practical upgrade over the older V8’s fixed pack.
  • Button operation removes trigger fatigue during long cleans.
  • At 5.74 lb it stays light enough for one-handed use.
  • The Motorbar head funnels hair into the bin without tangling.

Weaknesses

  • No battery-level indicator — only a blinking LED when charge runs low.
  • No auto-suction adjustment; you switch modes by hand.
  • MAX mode lasts roughly 10 minutes.
  • Hard-floor cleaning is hit or miss, and no soft roller head is included.
  • The 0.54 L bin fills fast in dusty homes and needs emptying twice on full-house cleans.
  • The machine will not operate or charge below 5°C (41°F).

Cleaning performance

Independent reviews put the V8 Cyclone’s cleaning power near far pricier cordless vacuums on carpet and pet hair. TechRadar tested it for two weeks against seven other stick vacuums and called the results comparable to much more expensive machines. Expert Reviews found it excellent for everyday cleaning and pet hair, though hard-floor results could be hit or miss. Woman & Home ran it through flour, sugar, granola and hair extensions and said it sailed through fine debris, with hair efficiently funnelled into the dust bin. Mumsnet rated performance and suction top marks after two months in a family home.

The Motorbar head uses polycarbonate vanes to strip hair from the brush bar, so hair goes into the bin instead of wrapping around the roller. Owners on Dyson’s review site consistently praise hair removal, suction and the lightweight design. Early Reddit reactions in the V8 Cyclone thread are mixed: some owners call it one of the best Dysons they have used, while others report creaking, cheap-feeling materials and a green cyclone colour they dislike. These are anecdotal signals, not a measured defect rate.

Battery, bin and runtime

Dyson rates the V8 Cyclone at up to 60 minutes in Eco mode with a non-motorized tool, but real runtime depends on mode, floor type and attachments. Woman & Home completed a full five-bedroom house clean on a single charge. Nine.com.au reports MAX mode gives roughly 10 minutes. The battery is a swappable seven-cell lithium-ion pack that clicks in without screws, so a second battery is an option for longer sessions.

The 0.54 L bin is small for a modern cordless vacuum. Woman & Home noted needing to empty it twice during a full-house clean, and Nine.com.au says it fills quickly in dusty homes or with heavy-shedding pets. Emptying uses a point-and-shoot dirt ejector that keeps your hands clear of the dust.

Running costs and upkeep

There are no bag costs. The main recurring expense is filters: Dyson recommends washing the pre-motor and post-motor filters with cold water about once a month, and leaving them to dry for at least 24 hours before reinstalling. The bin and Motorbar head can be removed and cleaned. The 2-year warranty covers the battery but not the filter; activate it through the MyDyson app. A second battery is sold by Dyson for extended runtime.

The user manual covers changing the battery, emptying the bin, clearing blockages, washing filters and clearing obstructions from the Motorbar head. Dyson states products returned within the guarantee period get a full refund with return shipping paid.

Is it worth it?

At $299.99 from Dyson and Best Buy (sale price from $399.99 MSRP), the V8 Cyclone undercuts the older V8 at $539.99 and the V8 Absolute at $589.99 while delivering higher suction and longer runtime. A Cleveland.com report from August 2026 flagged a $130-off deal during Dyson Week 2026, bringing the price to about $269.99. Crate & Barrel lists it at $399.95.

For buyers who want Dyson build quality and suction without paying for lasers, screens or auto modes, the value is strong at $299.99. If you have mostly hard floors, the lack of a soft roller head is a real limitation. If you want auto-suction adjustment or a larger bin, the source suggests comparing with Shark Stratos.

Which model this is

It is a refresh of the original Dyson V8 from 2016, with an upgraded motor, battery and button operation.
