Summary
A light cordless stick vacuum with a motorized floor head and dedicated pet-hair tools, aimed at fast daily cleaning on hard floors and stairs. Check battery fit and current pricing before you buy, because the 40-minute figure only applies with a non-powered tool.
Strengths
- Light at about 5.6 lb, easy to carry up stairs and around furniture.
- The Motorbar floor head and Hair screw tool handle carpets, hard floors and pet hair.
- Filtration is a clear strength and the filter is washable.
- Long market life means deep troubleshooting knowledge and wide parts availability.
- Converts quickly to a handheld for stairs, cars and upholstery.
Weaknesses
- The 40-minute headline only applies with a non-powered tool, not the motorized head.
- The trigger must be held for as long as the vacuum runs.
- There is no battery percentage readout and no automatic suction boost.
- Battery decline is the most repeated long-term complaint, from severe loss around 1.5 to 3 years to original packs lasting 4.5-plus years.
- Battery revisions are hard to tell apart, so confirm the model before ordering a replacement pack.
- The bin release can jam, and triggers can fatigue or break.

Runtime in the real world
Dyson rates the Motorbar floor head at about 23 minutes on carpet and 25 on hard floor in Powerful, dropping to 5 or 6 minutes in Max. The 40-minute figure only applies with a non-powered tool. Independent tests land in the same territory: RTINGS measured 41 minutes on its low setting and 8 minutes at minimum, while TechGearLab measured 33 minutes low and 7 minutes maximum. The charger is rated at about 5 hours; TechGearLab measured 3.4 hours.
Battery life and repairs
Battery degradation is the strongest recurring signal in owner threads. Reports range from severe decline around 1.5 to 3 years to original packs still working past 4.5 years, and nobody has published a failure rate. Trigger breakage and bin-release jams come up next. Pulsing or cutting out can also be a blocked airway or a clogged filter rather than a dead battery or motor. iFixit keeps V8 troubleshooting and repair threads, and batteries, filters, bins and heads are widely sold, though revision differences mean you should match the pack to the machine.
Is it worth it?
Buy it on sale. At a low price it is a light, repairable stick vacuum with the tools and filtration sorted; near the top of its usual range the redesigned V8 Cyclone offers more suction and longer runs for about the same outlay, so compare before you commit. Filter washing and an eventual replacement battery are the main running costs.
Which model this is
This page covers the US Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum, ASIN B09YS9N7H2, model SV25, in silver and nickel. It is the older V8 platform with a trigger, two modes and a 115 AW rating. Do not confuse it with the newer V8 Cyclone, which uses a button, three modes, a click-in battery and a higher 150 AW rating with a 60-minute headline.
