Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A 6 L top-fill ultrasonic humidifier with both cool and warm mist, app and voice control, and up to 60 hours of runtime per fill for bedrooms and mid-size rooms. Check your water and your room size before you buy: coverage claims range from 215 to 550 sq ft, and ultrasonic mist leaves white dust with hard tap water.

Strengths

  • 6 L top-fill tank ran 52 hours at low in one five-month test.
  • Sleep mode rates 28 dB, quiet enough for bedrooms.
  • App scheduling, target humidity and 30-day history.
  • Top-fill design avoids the leak-prone bottom-fill mess.

Weaknesses

  • Coverage claims disagree wildly: 215 to 550 sq ft depending on the listing.
  • Humidity sensor reads about 1 to 1.4 points low and wanders more than a Levoit rival.
  • App lacks a clean humidity-history graph and low-water alerts lag.
  • Ultrasonic mist leaves white dust with hard tap water.
  • Water leaks reported, often from misseated tanks or worn gaskets.
  • Warm mode draws 240-280 W, a real energy cost.

Warm mist and power use

Warm mist is the real differentiator: a PTC heater warms water before atomization, producing up to 500 mL/h versus 300 mL/h cool, reaching 86 F in about five minutes and adjustable to 133 F. The cost is power: roughly 240 to 280 W in warm mode against 22 to 26 W in cool mode, so reserve warm mist for the coldest, driest nights. One five-month test held mid-40s percent relative humidity in a 320 sq ft bedroom on auto mode and 36 percent in a 500 sq ft open space on max.

Humidity accuracy and the app

In the same side-by-side test the Dreo sensor read about 1 to 1.4 points below target and wandered more than a Levoit Classic 300S. Alexa routines fired in 43 of 50 tests versus 47 of 50 for that rival. The app lacks a clean humidity-history graph, and low-water alerts arrive slightly late. None of this is a dealbreaker, but it is the reason not to overpay.

Leaks, white dust and upkeep

Owner feedback repeatedly mentions water leaks, often traced to misseated tanks, worn gaskets, overfilling or mineral buildup. Ultrasonic mist also leaves white dust with hard tap water unless distilled water or Dreo’s optional demineralization cartridge is used. Maintenance is the usual ultrasonic routine: rinse the tank every couple of days, descale weekly, empty and dry when idle, and use distilled or purified water in hard-water areas. Dreo includes a cleaning brush and the app sends cleaning reminders. The cartridge is rated for up to about 40 gallons.

Warranty and support

Warranty is 12 months from purchase for the original purchaser, non-transferable, valid in the country of purchase, and requires proof of purchase; otherwise it starts two months from the manufacture date on the product label. Dreo does not publish a spare-parts catalog for the HM713S, so long-term repairability is limited to warranty exchange. Support is reachable at support@dreo.com or (888) 290-1688, Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00 PT.

Is it worth it?

At $80 or less it is strong value; $81 to $95 is the tested sweet spot; $96 to $110 is fair; $111 to $130 is weak-to-fair; above $130, compare carefully against the Levoit LV600S or Classic 300S. Dreo’s own page lists $89.99. Warm mist and 60 hours of runtime are the reasons to buy; the app, sensor accuracy and support gaps are the reasons not to overpay. Value is strongest around $90.
