Summary
A budget 3L top-fill ultrasonic cool-mist humidifier for bedrooms and rooms up to about 300 square feet, with a humidity sensor, auto mode and an adjustable night light. Check two things before buying: this version is touch-only, and DREO treats humidity readings off by up to 10% as normal.
Strengths
- The 3L top-fill tank and 30-hour sleep-mode runtime suit a bedroom or nursery.
- DREO claims 26 dB, among the quieter budget ultrasonic humidifiers.
- Auto mode holds humidity within ±5% of the set point instead of guessing at a dial.
- An aroma pad tray and an adjustable night light are included at this price.
- Consumer Reports rated the app variant HM306S excellent for medium rooms, the closest independent coverage this 3L body has.
- The 7.6 in footprint fits a nightstand.
Weaknesses
- The built-in humidity sensor can read off: DREO calls a deviation of 10% or less normal, and one owner measured 41% against a 34% reference.
- Cool-mist only, and this touch-only version has no app or voice control.
- Output is modest at 250 ml/hr for anything larger than a small room.
- The tank can crack if dropped, and DREO warns that essential oils must stay in the aroma tray, not the water.
- One owner reported a strong plastic odor on first activation.
- The app-enabled HM306S costs little more and adds the controls this version leaves out.

Humidity sensor and controls
The built-in humidity sensor is the most common complaint. DREO’s own troubleshooting page says a deviation of 10% or less is normal, and an owner measured the unit reading 41% while a separate thermometer read 34%; another called the readings a little off compared to a real hygrometer. Auto mode stops adding mist once the target is reached, so DREO points to room temperature, ventilation and placement when humidity does not climb as expected. This version is touch-only: mist level, timer, auto mode and an adjustable night light, with no app or voice control.
Filters and running costs
Consumables are the main running cost. DREO sells a Clean Mist Cartridge 3-pack and a Demineralization Cartridge 3-pack, both $18.99 and listed as fitting the 306 among other models. Aroma pads and distilled or purified water, recommended to limit white dust, add a little more. A replacement tank is not clearly sold on its own: on the larger HM311 page a verified owner complains they could not buy only the tank and had to replace the whole unit. The manual gives a 12-month warranty.
Which model this is
This page covers the DREO HM306, a 3L top-fill ultrasonic cool-mist humidifier sold as the “New Edition” with a humidity sensor and night light. DREO also sells the HM306S, which shares the body but adds app and voice control, and the larger 4L HM311 and 6L HM524 models. The listing is ASIN B0FXGK76DF.
Is it worth it?
At DREO direct’s $39.99 sale price, or the roughly $30 the 306 3L sold for in a January 2026 sale (NY Mag Strategist), the HM306 undercuts most smart humidifiers while still covering top-fill, auto humidity mode, an aroma tray and a night light. Pay much more and the value fades: the app-enabled HM306S is $49.98 from DREO direct, and larger 4L and 6L Dreo models are within reach. For a quiet bedside or nursery unit on a tight budget, it is a reasonable pick as long as you accept the sensor-accuracy caveat and do not need app control.
