DEWALT DWE6423: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-17

Summary

The DEWALT DWE6423 is a corded 3-amp 5-inch random-orbit sander with an 8,000-12,000 OPM dial and an eight-hole hook-and-loop pad. The recurring complaints are the backing pad (hooks that stop gripping, pads that bulge or separate in storage) and a short 4.5-foot cord. Sandpaper is the main yearly cost: 100 discs a year runs about $45.94; the tool is a strong buy at $70-80 and ordinary at $96-105.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

There is no subscription and no battery cost because the tool is corded. The main recurring spend is 5-inch hook-and-loop discs, with occasional pads and dust bags; brushes, cord, belt and other repair parts are conditional rather than yearly.

Abrasive example: at $22.97 for 50 DIABLO discs, 100 discs a year cost about $45.94, and 25 discs about $11.49. Replacement pad scenario: an OEM pad at $20.97 is roughly 21% of a $99 tool, or about $10.49 a year if replaced once in two years. Electricity example: 250 W for 40 hours a year is 10 kWh, about $2.50 at an assumed $0.25 per kWh; that is a scenario, not a measured draw, and excludes the shop vacuum.

When it is a good buy

US retailers listed the DWE6423 at $99 in October 2026 (Home Depot item 311528803, Lowe’s item 1631793, Acme Tools, The Power Tool Store and Ace Tool). Acme’s exact product page also showed a $79 “see price in cart” offer against $99, a conflicting indexed promotion, so confirm the cart before counting on it.
