Summary

A 20V MAX brushless SDS+ D-handle rotary hammer that drills concrete at 2.6 joules, sold as a bare tool. Check the batteries and the working range before you buy: it needs separate packs, and its sweet spot is 3/16 to 5/8 inch holes.

Strengths

  • 2.6 joules of impact energy at 0-1,500 RPM and 0-5,500 BPM.
  • A brushless motor inside the DEWALT 20V MAX ecosystem.
  • A D-handle body at about 5 lbs bare tool.
  • Three modes covering drilling, hammer drilling and chipping.
  • A mechanical clutch to manage bind-ups.
  • A 3-year limited warranty with 1 year of free service.

Weaknesses

  • No battery or charger, so the real cost is higher than the bare-tool price.
  • No electronic clutch or active vibration control, unlike the higher-end DCH293.
  • Bulkier and less refined than newer DEWALT hammer models.
  • Owners call it adequate for chipping but not top-tier.
  • One owner reported the chuck would not hold bits.
  • The 3/16 to 5/8 in working range is narrower than the 1 in chuck.

Drilling and chipping

DEWALT rates the DCH133B at 2.6 joules, 0-1,500 RPM and 0-5,500 BPM, which on paper edges the more compact DCH273 in speed and energy. The three-mode dial covers drilling, hammer drilling and chipping, and the mechanical clutch helps when a bit binds. For chipping it gets the job done, though owners say faster and heavier tools exist.

Batteries and total cost

The DCH133B ships with no battery, charger or case, so the total cost depends on what you already own. DEWALT 20V MAX packs run roughly $50-150 depending on capacity and a charger runs about $40-60, and DEWALT recommends the DCB205 or DCBP520 packs for best performance.

Is it worth it?

The bare tool runs about $249 at Northern Tool, Coastal Tool and Farrell Equipment, and Lowe’s lists a 2-tool combo with it at $449. For someone already on DEWALT 20V MAX batteries, it is a solid mid-range SDS+ hammer: brushless, 2.6 joules and a 3-year warranty. Add a battery and charger and the total approaches kit money, at which point a Bosch or Milwaukee kit deserves a look. The DCH133B wins on paper specs over the DCH273; the DCH293 adds the electronic clutch and active vibration control this model lacks.

Which model this is

This page covers the DEWALT DCH133B, the bare-tool 20V MAX 1-inch brushless SDS+ D-handle rotary hammer; the B suffix means no battery or charger, and the kit is the DCH133M2. Do not merge it with the DCH273B, the SDS-max DCH263B or the 1-1/8 in. DCH293B. The listing ASIN is B01MF4YEIF.
