Summary
Check the owner reports and the price before you buy: some units stop intermittently when dust builds up in the clutch, and battery and charger are not included.
Strengths
- The adjustable nosecone sets consistent screw depth, which separates it from a plain drill/driver.
- Four modes, including PushStart and Lock-On, cut fatigue on long runs.
- Light at 2.2 lbs bare, with a shorter handle than the DCF620 it replaces.
- Brushless motor on the 20V MAX battery platform.
- A TOOL CONNECT chip-ready pocket for contractor asset tracking.
- A 3-year limited warranty with 1 year of free service.
Weaknesses
- Battery and charger are not included, and the kit pushes the cost well past the bare tool.
- Owners report intermittent stopping when drywall-screw dust gums up the clutch detection switch.
- One owner reports screw depth drifting after about 4 months of daily use.
- Several owners report a loud squeak at certain angles when the tool is new.
- An owner could not remove a bit from the holder.
- The DCF6202 collated attachment does not fit this generation.

Depth control and modes
The reason to pick this over a drill/driver is the nosecone: set it once and the depth-sensitive clutch disengages the bit when the screw reaches that depth, so screws sit consistently. The four electronic modes matter on long runs: PushStart starts the motor when you press the tool against the wall and saves battery and noise between screws, while Lock-On runs at full speed until you pull the trigger again, which cuts finger fatigue. The collated screwgun attachment DCF6202 does not fit the DCF630, a change from the previous DCF620 generation that surprised some owners.
Clutch dust and stopping
The recurring complaint is intermittent stopping. A brand-new owner reported the tool randomly stopping and barely triggering the motor after about an hour of use; another suggested dust from oxide-coated drywall screws gums up the clutch detection switch, with a fix that meant pulling the battery, removing the front cover, and clearing the bit and extension. That is a maintenance signal rather than a documented defect, but it points to cleaning the clutch area if you drive coated screws. A separate owner could not free a bit from the holder.
DEWALT lists it at $199.00, and sale prices move around: ToolUp listed it at $168.74, Home Depot at $149.00, and Federated Tool at $249.00, which looks like an outlier. The DCF630D2 kit with two 2.0Ah batteries, a charger and a bag runs about $318-368. If you do not already own 20V MAX batteries, add roughly $100-150 for a battery and charger, which changes the math against a competing kit.
Is it worth it?
If you own 20V MAX batteries and hang drywall regularly, the depth nosecone and the four modes justify the bare-tool price between about $149 and $170. Above $200 it is hard to justify for a bare tool unless you need this exact platform.
Which model this is
This page covers the DEWALT DCF630B, the bare-tool 20V MAX XR brushless drywall screwgun. The kit is the DCF630D2, and a DCK265D2 combo pairs it with a cut-out tool. Do not merge it with the earlier DCF620B, the threaded-clutch DCF624B, or the DCF630SS. The listing ASIN is B0BPY8L57P.
