DEWALT DCD798B: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-17

Summary

The DCD798B is the bare-tool version of DEWALT’s compact 20V MAX brushless hammer drill, and the recurring owner issues are not mechanical failures but buyer confusion: listings show a battery the tool does not include, and the near-identical Atomic DCD799 sold at other stores muddies the comparison. Keeping it running costs whatever 20V MAX battery, charger and carbide masonry bits you must buy if you do not already own them. Near $169 bare it is a reasonable occasional-masonry drill for existing 20V MAX owners; at $199 list it is a weak buy because discounted kits have sold for less.
