Summary
DEWALT’s most powerful 20V MAX hammer drill, a bare tool with 2,100 in-lbs of rated torque, a 3-speed all-metal transmission and a 38,250 BPM hammer rate. Check two things before buying: it is tool-only, and at 4.2 lbs bare it is heavy for overhead work.
Strengths
- Highest torque and power on DEWALT’s 20V MAX platform at 2,100 in-lbs and 1,530 MWO.
- The 3-speed all-metal transmission covers wood, metal and concrete.
- ANTI-ROTATION kickback control shuts the tool down on bind-ups; owners call it a wrist saver.
- Short 7.5-inch head gives better access in tight spaces than the DCD999 and DCD998.
- Ratcheting nitro-carburized chuck holds bits well, owners report.
Weaknesses
- At 4.2 lbs bare it is heavier than the DCD806 (2.9 lbs) and Milwaukee 2904 (3.23 lbs); owners report fatigue in overhead work.
- The 2,100 in-lbs figure is rated max brake torque under lab conditions, so real torque in a bind is lower.
- Tool-only: no battery, charger, bag or case is included.
- The 275 holes-per-charge claim assumes the 8Ah DCB2108 battery and a 7/8-inch auger in fir, both sold separately.
- With a 5Ah battery it feels more top-heavy than with the 8Ah PowerPack.
- A few owners report a noise that disappears when the chuck is fully closed, or shutdowns at low battery with the clutch at 3-5 positions.

Which model this is
This page covers the DEWALT DCD1007B, the bare-tool 20V MAX XR brushless 1/2-inch 3-speed hammer drill. The “B” suffix means no battery, charger or bag; the kit version is the DCD1007WW1 with an 8Ah DCBP2108 PowerPack and a DCB118 charger, and the lanyard-ready version is the DCD1007BLR. Do not confuse it with the mid-range DCD806, the FlexVolt Advantage DCD999 or the Power Detect DCD998. The Amazon listing for this model is ASIN B0D8TM5MW4.
Power and speed in testing
In four instrumented tests with fresh batteries the DEWALT was faster in all of them: an 8-inch GRK RSS screw into OSB in 2.42 seconds against 2.49, a 1-inch spade bit through 4-inch OSB in 2.54 against 2.62, a 2-9/16-inch self-feed bit through 2x4 pine in 1.73 against 1.89, and a 3/8-inch bit 3 inches into 4,000 PSI concrete in 6.39 against 6.84. Against the DCD806 the DEWALT wins on paper with 1,530 MWO against 1,050 and a 2,250 RPM hammer-mode top speed against 2,000.
Weight and handling
Weight is the main trade-off. The drill is tuned for the 8Ah XR battery; with a 5Ah pack it feels more top-heavy. The short 7.5-inch head is a plus, though, giving better access in tight spaces than the DCD999 and DCD998. A few owners report a noise that fades when the chuck is fully closed, and one Facebook group member describes the drill shutting down when the battery is low with the clutch at 3-5 positions, which may be normal battery protection rather than a defect. Nobody has published a failure rate for this model, and it is new enough that long-term reliability data does not exist yet.
Batteries and running costs
The DCD1007B runs on any DEWALT 20V MAX battery, but published performance assumes the 8Ah DCBP2108 PowerPack, and smaller 2Ah-5Ah packs cut the holes-per-charge figure. 20V MAX batteries run roughly $50-200 depending on capacity, and you will also need a charger, drill bits, hole saws and auger bits. The TOOL CONNECT chip for fleet tracking is sold separately. There is no platform lock-in beyond the 20V MAX ecosystem.
Is it worth it?
Bare-tool MSRP is $249, and street prices of $170-230 appear during promotions, with a Lowe’s clearance seen at $149.99. At the $239-249 MSRP it is harder to justify for general use. Above $250 the bare tool is poor value next to kit options, including the Milwaukee 2904 kit at $329 with two XC5.0Ah batteries, and the DCD1007WW1 kit at $349 adds the 8Ah PowerPack and charger. The DCD1007B makes the most sense for pros and serious DIYers drilling large holes in wood or working concrete often; for general use or overhead work, the lighter DCD806 covers most of the job.
