Summary
A bare-tool 20V MAX random orbit sander for shops already stocked with DEWALT 18V batteries: brushless motor, 8,000–12,000 OPM and a 5-in 8-hole pad. Check the dust port before you buy: it needs a DEWALT hose end or the DWV9000 adapter, and owners report weak suction at the pad even with a shop vac running.
Strengths
- Brushless motor and a 7-position dial spanning 8,000–12,000 OPM suit finish sanding on wood, metal and plastic.
- Measured runtime is strong on bigger packs: nearly an hour of light 150-grit work on a 5.0 Ah battery.
- The 5-in 8-hole hook-and-loop pad takes common paper and net abrasives, and the replaceable pad is a cheap wear part.
- Vibration control earns repeated praise, and a reader reported three weeks of jobsite use including drops with no failures.
- The one-handed locking dust bag snaps on and off quickly for a bare tool.
Weaknesses
- Dust extraction is the dominant complaint: the port is proprietary, and one owner measured little suction at the pad with a shop vac at full speed.
- There is no automatic shop-vac on/off because the tool is cordless, so the vac must be switched separately.
- Runtime drops by half or more under heavy low-grit work, so a compact pack can drain fast.
- It is not the fastest sander at stock removal, and it is a bare tool with no battery or charger included.

Battery life and runtime
Runtime halves or more under heavy low-grit work. Owners with small packs report quick drain; 5 Ah users report a long runtime. Balance shifts with pack size: Popular Woodworking measured 2.9 lb with a 2.0 Ah pack and 3.5 lb with a 4.0 Ah, and warned that DEWALT’s 6.0 and 9.0 Ah FlexVolt packs make the sander top-heavy.
Dust collection and the proprietary port
The dust bag is one-handed and locks, but the port is DEWALT-specific. It clips onto a DEWALT hose end and fits the DWV010/DWV012 extractors directly; every other vacuum needs the DWV9000 universal quick connector, and Popular Woodworking tried 10 different vac hoses with none fitting without it. A Sawmill Creek owner reports little suction at the pad even with a shop vac at full speed, suspecting an internal restriction. There is also no automatic vac activation because the tool is cordless. Popular Woodworking measured the bag capturing 61% of dust created; DEWALT’s “up to 95%” claim belongs to the newer DCW211 with a DEWALT extractor, not this tool.
Warranty, maintenance and running costs
DEWALT backs the US tool with a 3-year limited warranty, 1 year of free service and a 90-day satisfaction guarantee. The manual’s routine is simple: empty the dust bag often, especially when sanding resin-coated finishes like polyurethane, varnish and shellac, clean the tool periodically, and never run it without the bag or a dust-collection system. The dust-sealed switch is built to resist dust ingestion. The pad is the main wear item, and it is cheap and widely available (DWE64233, or PSA service part N373679). Ongoing costs for a bare-tool buyer are 5-in 8-hole sanding discs, the DWV9000 adapter if you want a non-DEWALT vacuum, and a battery and charger if you do not already own them.
Is it worth it?
Walmart listed the bare tool at $63.98, down from $71.09 at check time (2026-10-19), and at that level it is easy value for anyone already on the 20V MAX platform. The Power Tool Store lists $149.00 and Global Industrial $195.95 (2026-10-19); Lowe’s has been cited at $149. Around $100 the tool stays fair, and BePro Tools described the DCW210 as still around $100 against the new DCW211 at $199 bare.
Which model this is
This page covers the DCW210B, the first-generation 20V MAX 5-in brushless random orbit sander, launched around 2019-2020 and sold tool only. It shares the line with the DCW210P1 and DCW210D1 kits and the international 18V XR DCW210N-XJ. Do not confuse it with the 6-in DCW230B, the 1/4-sheet DCW200B, or the older corded DWE6421/DWE6423. The 2026 successor is the DCW211, a different tool with a different pad and a larger dust bag.
