Summary
A 20V MAX XR brushless cordless impact wrench kit with a 1/2-inch hog ring anvil, built for heavy fastening and rated at 1030 ft-lbs fastening and 1400 ft-lbs breakaway torque, with a 5 Ah battery, charger and bag. Check the box before you buy: DEWALT’s own listings disagree about whether the kit ships a DCB115 or DCB1102 charger, and a belt hook is not confirmed.
Strengths
- Rated for 1030 ft-lbs fastening and 1400 ft-lbs breakaway torque, enough for over-torqued and seized fasteners.
- Four modes including Precision Wrench give more control than a single-speed impact.
- Owners report it removing semi-truck wheels, a seized Honda crankshaft bolt and compact-tractor lug nuts.
- Brushless motor, glass-filled nylon housing and BatteryGuard battery connection are built for shop conditions.
- Ships with a 5 Ah battery, charger and bag, so there is no extra starter battery to buy.
- A 3-year limited warranty and a 90-day satisfaction guarantee back the tool.
Weaknesses
- Heavy and bulky at 6.4 lbs tool-only, and owners describe it as fatiguing to carry all day.
- Independent instrumented testing of the exact model is thin; the cited figures come from a YouTube test relayed through Reddit.
- The lowest mode is 100 ft-lbs, which community discussion says is too high to safely seat some passenger-car lug nuts.
- The kit charger is inconsistent in DEWALT’s own listings: DCB115 in the Includes list, DCB1102 in the kit image.
- No belt hook is confirmed in the box, even though it appears in the product image.
- No first-party parts catalog was found, so long-term repairability is unclear.

Full research notes and sources
Torque and modes
First-party specifications put the DCF900 at 1030 ft-lbs maximum fastening torque and 1400 ft-lbs maximum breakaway torque, with a 0-2300 RPM no-load speed and 0-2200 IPM impact rate. Those are manufacturer ratings, not measured output. The Torque Test Channel (TTC) YouTube test, which owners quote most often, is reported in community threads as roughly 895 ft-lbs best-case on a 5 Ah battery and 936 ft-lbs average on a 6 Ah battery. Treat those as video-derived figures, not first-party data.
The four modes give more control than a single-speed impact. Low is 100 ft-lbs / 0-650 RPM, Medium 600 ft-lbs / 0-1040 RPM, High 1030 ft-lbs / 0-2300 RPM, and Precision Wrench runs forward at 0-820 RPM until impact begins, then pauses about 0.75 seconds before impacting at 2200 IPM. Reverse impacts at 2300 RPM / 2200 IPM and backs off once the fastener breaks free.
What independent testing shows
Its 2025 head-to-head tested ten mid-torque models and named the DCF891 Best Overall; the DCF900 was not in that group. ToolGuyd’s coverage is a launch article that reproduces the manual mode data and pricing, not a test. So there is no independent instrumented test of the exact kit.
Owner reports and reliability
Owner feedback is consistent that the tool has the power for difficult jobs. Reports include removing semi-truck wheels, a seized Honda Accord crankshaft bolt and compact-tractor lug nuts. Owners repeatedly frame it as a heavy industrial, farm or heavy-equipment tool rather than an everyday automotive wrench.
The recurring caution is size and weight, not a defect cluster. Owners describe the 6.4 lb tool as fatiguing to carry all day, and one says a mid-torque wrench is preferable for most work. A small number of isolated under-performance reports exist, and one owner’s initial failure to break lug nuts free went away after removing an extension bit and switching to a different battery. Nobody has published a failure rate, so treat those as single-user anecdotes rather than a defect trend.
The manual tells you to blow dust out of the air vents with clean, dry air at least once a week and to inspect the anvil and hog ring before use, replacing missing or damaged parts. No field-failure study of the exact model was found, and no first-party parts catalog for the DCF900 turned up in the sources read.
Kit contents and running costs
DCF900P1 is the kit: the DCF900 tool, one 20V MAX 5.0 Ah (DCB205) battery, a charger and a kit bag. DEWALT’s own page is inconsistent about the charger. The Includes list names a DCB115, while the kit-contents image names a DCB1102. The DCB115 is a 4 A charger and the DCB1102 a 2 A slide-on unit, so confirm what is in the box.
A belt hook appears in the product image but not in the Includes list, and a ToolGuyd comment thread says the tool ships without one. Treat the hook as unconfirmed. Sockets and extensions are not included, and a protective boot (PB900B) is sold separately. There are no consumables; the practical running costs are spare 20V batteries and sockets.
Is it worth it?
Home Depot lists the kit at $349.00, a Home Depot category page showed $269.00, and Lowe’s lists it at $349.00. A BobIsTheOilGuy thread reports the kit at $219.99 at a local farm-supply sale, and a Reddit thread reports the bare DCF900B tool at $225 at Walmart. ToolGuyd listed launch pricing in September 2022 at $349 for the kit.
At the common $329-349 street price the kit is a fair-to-good value if you need 1400 ft-lbs of breakaway and already use the DEWALT 20V platform. Below about $250 it is a strong value. Above $349, lighter mid-torque wrenches are usually the better everyday choice unless the full torque class is required.
Which model this is
This page covers the kit model DCF900P1, with the tool identified as DCF900. DEWALT also sells the DCF900B (tool only), the DCF900P2 (two 5.0 Ah batteries) and the DCF900GP2 (two oil-resistant batteries); the older DCF899 and the newer DCF961 are different tools.
