DEWALT DCF900P1: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-18
Summary
Owners mostly flag the DCF900P1’s weight and bulk rather than defects, with secondary cautions about the kit charger and belt hook that DEWALT’s own listings disagree on. There are no consumables; keeping it running means buying sockets, extensions and spare 20V batteries. It is a strong buy below about $250, fair-to-good at the $329-349 street price common in October 2026, and weak above $349.
Common problems and fixes
- Weight and bulk — the 6.4 lb tool-only weight and 8.8 in length draw the most complaints; owners call it fatiguing to carry all day and say a mid-torque wrench is preferable for most work. No fix; it is the trade for 1400 ft-lbs of breakaway torque. [11]
- Lowest mode too high for some lug nuts — Low is 100 ft-lbs, above the about 80 ft-lb spec some passenger-car lug nuts use, and community discussion warns against using an impact for final tightening. Finish lug nuts with a torque wrench. [4][14]
- Kit charger inconsistency — DEWALT’s Includes list names a DCB115 (4 A) while the kit-contents image names a DCB1102 (2 A slide-on). An independent reseller flyer and a distributor listing both show the DCB115, so check the box before you buy. [1][15][16][17]
- Belt hook not confirmed — the product image shows a hook, the Includes list does not, and a ToolGuyd comment thread says the tool ships without one. Buy an aftermarket hook if you need it. [1][4]
- Lug nuts that will not break free — one owner’s DCF900 initially failed on lug nuts; it went away after removing an extension bit and switching batteries, and others blamed over-torqued lugs. No defect trend is documented. [8]
- Hog ring and anvil wear — the manual tells you to inspect the anvil and hog ring before use and replace missing or damaged parts. Replace the ring when sockets start slipping. [3]
- Isolated under-performance reports — a few “lemon” reports exist, with replies suspecting a fake or defective unit; there is no prevalence estimate. The 3-year limited warranty and 90-day satisfaction guarantee are the backstop. [9][2]
Parts and consumables
- Charger (DCB115 likely) — included; the identity is inconsistent in DEWALT’s own listings, see the charger problem above. [1][15]

When it is a good buy
Home Depot listed the kit at $349.00 in October 2026 [5], with a category page showing $269.00 for the same model [6]; Lowe’s listed it at $349.00 in October 2026 [7]. A BobIsTheOilGuy thread reports the kit at $219.99 at a local farm-supply sale reported in October 2026 [12], and a Reddit thread reports the bare DCF900B at $225 at Walmart [13]. ToolGuyd’s September 2022 launch pricing was $349 for the kit [4].
Below about $250 it is a strong value. Between $250 and $349 it is fair-to-good for buyers who need 1400 ft-lbs of breakaway on the DEWALT 20V platform. Above $349 it is weak for most users.
