Dell UltraSharp U4323QE: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-31
Summary
The Dell UltraSharp U4323QE is a 42.51-inch 4K IPS monitor with four-computer KVM switching, up to 90 W of USB-C laptop charging, 10 Gbps USB ports and Gigabit Ethernet in one panel. Owners mostly report workflow friction rather than panel failure: KVM switching that does not move the keyboard and mouse, rear USB-A ports that intermittently drop devices, and rare blackouts after the PC wakes. There are no filters, batteries or subscriptions to buy, so electricity is the running cost, about $21.25 to $31.87 a year on a 2,000-hour office schedule, and below roughly $900 new with Dell coverage the panel is a strong buy for real four-PC KVM work.
Common problems and fixes
- KVM switching does not move keyboard and mouse — owners report seeing both PC screens but the shared keyboard and mouse stay on the other machine. Dell support advises binding each video source to its upstream USB input in the OSD and temporarily disabling Auto Select and Power Button Sync. [11][12]
- OSD message that USB Switch needs PIP/PBP enabled — the USB switch function is unavailable unless PIP/PBP is on. Dell’s advice is to enable PIP/PBP, map each video source to the right upstream USB input, and switch off Auto Select and Dell Power Button Sync. [12]
- Rear USB-A ports intermittently drop devices — a unit bought in April 2024 stopped recognising a webcam and a wired keyboard on the rear USB-A ports; one owner suggested testing a good-quality upstream cable. No confirmed root cause, warranty outcome or firmware fix has been published. [13]
- Black screen after PC start or resume — an owner of two U4323QEs reported one occasionally showing no picture after the PC starts or wakes from hibernate. Swapping DisplayPort cables and outputs did not help, and the thread never established whether the fault was in the panel, cable, handshake or firmware. [14]
- Ethernet connection transfers to the wrong host — when a laptop is plugged into the monitor’s Ethernet for single-cable connectivity, switching the KVM to another machine moved the network adapter and cut the laptop’s connection. Plug Ethernet into the laptop or a dedicated dock if the work machine must stay online. [15]
Parts and consumables
- VESA monitor arm or mount (optional) — must hold at least the 29.01 lb (13.16 kg) panel and allow for a 42.51-inch diagonal. B&H listed the Ergotron HX 45-475-026 at $329 in October 2026 for 20–42 lb and up to 42 inches, so its stated size cap sits below this panel and compatibility must be checked before ordering. [2][10]
There are no replaceable filters, batteries, cartridges or subscription-locked parts required for normal operation.
Yearly running cost
A typical owner spends about $21.25 to $31.87 a year on electricity. The calculation uses Dell’s 52.1 W on-mode figure for 8 hours a day across 250 working days, or 2,000 on-hours, which is 104.2 kWh, plus 6,760 hours in 0.3 W standby for 2.028 kWh, giving 106.228 kWh a year. At $0.20/kWh that is $21.25 and at $0.30/kWh it is $31.87. Laptop charging and attached USB peripherals add to this, and the 250 W maximum applies only at full brightness with every USB load attached, not to ordinary use.
When it is a good buy
- Below $900 new with original Dell coverage — strong buy for real four-PC KVM work. [1][8][9]
- $900–$1,050 — good price. [1][8][9]
- $1,050–$1,160 — reasonable when the monitor replaces a dock and several displays. [1][8][9]
- $1,160–$1,250 — only fair at that level. [1][8][9]
Observed prices in October 2026 were $1,099.99 at B&H Photo with another snapshot at $1,149.99, $1,157.99 promotional at CDW with $1,199.99 on other snapshots, and $1,124.99 promotional on Dell’s own pages with $1,199.99 standard. Prices are dynamic and depend on the offer refresh.
Alternatives:
- Dell U4924DW — 49-inch curved 5120 × 1440 with 90 W USB-C, about $1,410–$1,500 direct from Dell in October 2026. The better choice for panoramic side-by-side work on a wide desk, and the weaker one when vertical resolution for spreadsheets or code matters. [18]
- Dell U4025QW — 40-inch curved Thunderbolt 4, 5120 × 2160 at 120 Hz with up to 140 W charging, about $2,250–$2,400 direct from Dell in October 2026. The better choice for color-sensitive work, smooth motion or a laptop that needs more than 90 W, at roughly twice the price. [19]
