De'Longhi Rivelia: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-17

Summary

Mostly inconveniences rather than breakdowns: a milk carafe that feels flimsy and needs a fiddly weekly deep clean, a descaling light that stays on after repeated descaling in Australian reports, splatter with frequent water purges, and isolated owner reports of water in the grounds bin, screeching and an unresponsive power button. Filters and descaler run about $127.68 to $135.66 a year before coffee and milk (De’Longhi US, October 2026). It is a strong buy at the $999.95 De’Longhi direct price and weak at the $1,299.95 list price.

Yearly running cost

Maintenance-only arithmetic at De’Longhi US prices from October 2026: six DLSC002 filters a year at $19.95 each is $119.70, and two to four descaling doses at $19.95 per five-dose bottle add $7.98 to $15.96, for about $127.68 to $135.66 a year in filters and descaler. The two-to-four descaling assumption is illustrative, not a manufacturer schedule, and hard water changes it. Coffee, milk, electricity, the optional MultiClean and out-of-warranty repairs are extra. There is no capsule lock-in.

When it is a good buy

De’Longhi’s own store showed $999.95 for the Arctic White, $1,299.95 for the Onyx Black and $1,299.99 for the Sand Beige in October 2026, after a $1,499 May 2025 US launch; a Best Buy category page showed the black model at $999.95 as a 365-day low. At $999.95 it is strong value: dual hoppers, four user profiles, a compact body, real microfoam and a warranty that reaches 3 years with registration are hard to match in a mainstream super-automatic. Above about $1,150 the case weakens, and at $1,299.95 it is weak value. Check the colour, the seller and the final cart price — De’Longhi’s pages moved between $999.95 and $1,299.95 within days.
