Summary

A four-spool filament dryer with two independently heated chambers, aimed at people whose materials dry at or below 75 °C. Check your filaments before you buy: it is the lite version of the SpacePi X4 and cannot reach the 80-85 °C that PA and PC often require.

Strengths

  • Two independently heated chambers dry two material groups at different temperatures in one machine.
  • Four-spool capacity in a compact chassis, with insulation that keeps the exterior at or below 60 °C at a 75 °C interior.
  • Fast heat-up and quiet running; an owner measured the X4 reaching 85 °C in about 10 minutes.
  • The readout is accurate enough: one sensor-logging owner found it within about 0.5 °C and 1.5 % RH of calibrated sensors.
  • Single-chamber mode saves up to 40 % energy against dual-chamber operation.
  • Passive desiccant regeneration and sealed storage keep filament dry between sessions on well-sealed units.

Weaknesses

  • The 75 °C ceiling is too low for PA, PAHT and PC filaments whose maker calls for 80-85 °C.
  • The humidity reading floors around 20 % RH, so a low reading does not prove the filament is dry.
  • Spools do not rotate during drying; drying depends on 360° hot-air circulation.
  • Lid sealing is disputed between owners, and the X4L lacks the X4’s one-way valves, so idle humidity ingress is possible.
  • The touchscreen is widely described as low quality and unresponsive.
  • Nearly empty spools can skew or jam during printing.

Two chambers and heat-up

Each chamber has its own 200 W PTC heater, so you can dry PLA at 50 °C on one side and PETG at 60 °C on the other at the same time. That is the main reason to pick a four-spool box over two single-spool dryers. The chassis is shared with the SpacePi X4, and owners of that model report it reaching 85 °C in about 10 minutes and running quietly. Creality says the dual-layer insulation keeps the exterior at or below 60 °C while the interior is at 75 °C.

Temperature ceiling and materials

The X4L is explicitly the lite version of the SpacePi X4. Where the X4 reaches 85 °C, the X4L caps at 75 °C, and it drops the X4’s active dehumidification fans, one-way sealing valves and automatic desiccant regeneration. If you print PA, PAHT, PC or other filaments whose maker calls for 80-85 °C, the X4L can only dry them slowly and incompletely. PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS/ASA and most PET/PC grades that tolerate 75 °C or less are fine.

Humidity, sealing and the drybox question

The humidity reading floors around 20 % RH, a known limit of low-cost sensors, so a 20 % display does not mean the filament is dry. One X4 owner logged 23-26 % on the unit against 11 % on an independent hygrometer inside the spool; another saw PC reach 8 % and PLA sit at 30-40 % when unsealed. Lid sealing is disputed: one owner measured only +2 % RH 36 h after the cycle ended, while another reports no gasket and humidity rising to ambient when idle. Because the X4L lacks the X4’s one-way valves, idle humidity ingress is a real possibility for the lite model. Owners also report that the machine does not work as a drybox: chamber humidity rises to ambient when it sits idle.

Running costs and upkeep

Running costs are modest. Creality publishes 0.095 kWh for a single chamber and 0.165 kWh for both chambers at 75 °C for one hour, and single-chamber mode saves up to 40 % against dual-chamber operation. The desiccant is built in and regenerates through heated airflow; the manual includes 10 reusable silica gel packs and a 1 m PTFE tube, though some retailers list only the dryer, cable and manual. Unplug the dryer when it is not in use or before cleaning, and keep the ventilation openings clear. There is no published service-parts list for the X4L, and the support page carries firmware and FAQs only.

Is it worth it?

Creality’s US store lists the X4L at $119 with a $159 compare-at price, a 14-day return window and up to a 12-month warranty (2026-10-18). Creality’s VIP Mall lists the US-plug unit at $167.01, and The 3D Factory in Cyprus lists it at €149. That puts it below the SpacePi X4, which the US store lists at $159 with a $199 compare-at price. If you print PA or PC at 80-85 °C, the X4’s extra 10 °C and active moisture management usually justify the step up. Given the unresolved sealing and humidity-floor questions and the lack of any independent instrumented test of the X4L, treat the 14-day return window as part of the value.

Which model this is

This page covers the Creality SpacePi X4L, the lite four-spool dryer. The US Amazon listing for this model is ASIN B0FZB4HZY5. Do not confuse it with the SpacePi X4 (85 °C, 360 W, active dehumidification and an IPS touchscreen), the Space Pi Plus (two spools, 45-70 °C) or the Space Pi (one spool).
