Creality SpacePi X4: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-17
Summary
The SpacePi X4 is a dual-chamber dryer that holds four 1 kg spools and reaches 85 °C, enough for PA, PAHT and PC, and it runs quietly at 46–48 dB. The recurring complaints are a humidity floor around 20%, a sensor that can read high at the spool, a slow touchscreen, rollers that vary from unit to unit, and startup power spikes that tripped a 600 W UPS in one test. Running cost is electricity only, at about 120–360 W sustained; it is a strong buy below $130.
Common problems and fixes
- Humidity floor — one owner reports the humidity “never gets much below 20%” in typical use, and another saw the chamber sensor read 23–26% while a separate hygrometer at the spool read 11%. Treat the displayed figure as a trend rather than a spool moisture reading. [6][8]
- Touchscreen responsiveness — one Reddit owner says “the touch screen isn’t very responsive but functional”, and some need a firm press. [8]
- Roller quality variation — one owner reports cheap injection-molded plastic rollers with a deformed unit, while another and ThePhonograph describe metal cores, suggesting unit-to-unit variation. Check that every roller spins freely on arrival. [8][15]
- Startup power spikes — ThePhonograph found inrush spikes that tripped a 600 W UPS during initial heating, which matters on battery-backed outlets. [15]
- No accessories included — the unit ships with only the power cable and no PTFE tube, so direct feed to a printer needs your own tubing. [1][15]
- Lid gasket disagreement — reports differ on whether the lid has a rubber gasket; one owner described an airtight seal and another found none. [4][8]
Parts and consumables
No replaceable parts or consumables reported. The built-in desiccant is regenerable during normal operation, so there is nothing to buy or swap. [1]
Yearly running cost
Electricity is the only recurring cost. There is no desiccant to buy and no other consumable. Not enough data to compute a yearly figure.
When it is a good buy
At $134.99 reported in the r/Creality launch thread (with a $126.71 low and a $164.99 high) it is a strong buy for multi-material users who need independent chambers and the 85 °C ceiling; B&H Photo listed $179.00 and 3D Printing Industry saw $199 at the Creality store in August 2025 [9][3][17]. Between $131 and $160 it is fair if the dual chambers and the temperature ceiling are genuinely needed. Above $160 it is hard to justify unless that exact combination is the requirement.
- SUNLU S4 — a four-spool box with a shared 70 °C chamber; a better pick if one temperature suits all your spools. [11]
