Creality SpacePi X4: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-17
Summary
A four-spool filament dryer with two independent 200 W PTC heating chambers that reach 85 °C, aimed at nylon, PC and carbon-fibre filaments. The recurring trouble is unit-to-unit build variation: at least one owner got no lid gasket or sealable vents and another got a deformed roller, so check the lid and spin the rollers on arrival. Running cost is electricity: 0.124 kWh in single-chamber mode and 0.208 kWh in dual-chamber mode for one hour at 85 °C, and the desiccant regenerates so nothing needs replacing.
Common problems and fixes
- Lid seal and vent variation — one owner received a unit with no lid gasket and no sealable vents, while another measured only a 2% humidity rise over 36 hours after a cycle. Check the lid seal when yours arrives. [7][5]
- Roller quality and a deformed roller — one owner calls the rollers high-quality steel, another reports cheap injection-moulded plastic with no metal core and one deformed, non-functional roller. Spin every roller before loading filament. [7]
- PC support removal stays hard — the independent test found PC improved less than nylon and support removal stayed difficult even after drying, so budget extra cleanup on PC prints. [3]
- PTFE tubing not included — the dry-and-print passthrough ports need PTFE tubing, and it is not in the box, so buy it separately before printing from the chamber. [1]
- Touchscreen and UI bugs — one owner calls the screen not very responsive but functional, and mentions a couple of UI bugs that firmware updates can work out. Update the firmware via TF card. [7]
Parts and consumables
- PTFE tubing for passthrough ports — not included; must be bought separately. [1]
- Desiccant — built in and regenerates automatically during operation, so there is nothing to replace. [1][4][5]
- Rollers, PTC heaters, control board — replacement parts are not listed in any public catalog, so long-term repair is guesswork. [1]
Yearly running cost
Electricity is the main running cost: 0.124 kWh in single-chamber mode and 0.208 kWh in dual-chamber mode for one hour at 85 °C, with single-chamber mode using up to 40% less energy. The desiccant regenerates during operation, so there is nothing to replace. PTFE tubing for the dry-and-print ports is a one-off purchase. Not enough data to compute a yearly figure.
When it is a good buy
At $179 (B&H Photo, August 2025) it is a strong buy for a four-spool dryer with 85 °C, dual independent chambers and dry-and-print passthrough; most competitors such as Sunlu S4 and Polydryer top out at 50–70 °C. At Creality’s own $199 it narrows, and above $220 it is weak unless you specifically need 85 °C drying. PB Tech lists it at NZD $260 and Creality Singapore at SGD $222.90. [2][3]
