Creality Space Pi Plus: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-17
Summary
A dual-spool heated filament dryer for 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm filament, with a 45–70 °C range, a 160 W dual PTC heater and four feed outlets so the printer can pull filament while it dries. Running cost is modest: electricity only, at roughly 120–160 W while heating.
Common problems and fixes
- PTFE feed tube binds the spool — during print-through use the supplied PTFE tube can slide inward until it binds the spool and stops filament feed; multiple owners report it, and it is a design flaw rather than user error. Tape or hot glue on the tube fixes it. [7][5]
- E4 heating error — owners report E4 shutdowns from leaving the lid open, overheating with two full spools of ABS or ASA at 65 °C, cold ambient, and thermistor or mainboard faults. Creality has replaced circuit boards and motherboards under warranty for E4 failures. [10][11][12]
- Cold-ambient lockout — below 15 °C ambient the dryer displays “EA” and refuses to heat, because the firmware reads a sub-15 °C thermistor value as a sensor fault. It will sit idle in an unheated workshop or garage in winter. [8][13]
- Blower fan noise and failure — owners report bearing noise, whirring and fan failures after weeks or months; exact replacement fans are awkward to source, and Creality’s wiki has a fan replacement guide. [5][11]
- Humidity readout is not filament dryness — the display shows chamber air humidity, not filament moisture, and owners report a 13–15% floor that never goes lower and does not hold once heating stops. Treat the number as a trend. [5][8][14]
- Unresponsive touchscreen — some owners report needing firm or repeated presses, and one reported a cracked LCD after extended use. [8][15]
Parts and consumables
- PTFE feed tubes — included in the box; the supplied tube is the part most likely to need taping or gluing. [7][5]
- Blower fan — owners replace a failed sleeve-bearing blower; exact replacements are awkward to source and Creality’s wiki has a replacement guide. [5][11]
- Desiccant — two built-in compartments; replacement is optional and there is no consumable lock-in. [5]
Yearly running cost
Electricity is the only recurring cost, at about 120–160 W while heating (roughly 120–140 W drying PETG at 65 °C, peaking around 160–170 W at heat-up). Desiccant replacement is optional and there is no consumable lock-in. Not enough data to compute a yearly figure.
When it is a good buy
At $89 (Creality store, October 2026) it is a fair buy for two-spool drying, provided you secure the PTFE routing and watch for E4 errors during the return window. It was $99.99 in January 2025 (3D Printed Decor) and around $80 in February 2025 (Syntaxglow). Above $100 the case weakens: the four-spool Sunlu S4 is $129.99 and four-spool capacity starts to make sense for multi-material shops. [1][15][8]
