Creality Pika 3D Scanner: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-26

Summary

Creality Pika is a 260 g pocket 3D scanner combining a 7-line blue laser mode with near-infrared structured light, rated at up to 0.03 mm laboratory accuracy. Common issues are NIR tracking failures on hair and dark surfaces, marker-free blue-laser scanning being USB-PC-only, demanding host hardware, and a wobbly included turntable. It costs $699 at MSRP ($629 early-bird) plus a capable host device if not already owned; software is free with no subscription. At $629 it is strong value for portable blue-laser scanning; at $699 it suits buyers who already own a capable host.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

Software (Creality Scan) is free with no subscription. There are no filters, pods or consumables beyond the included accessories; the main possible outlays are a capable host device (if not already owned), optional scanning spray, a sturdier turntable or tripod and a case. No yearly figure is quantified in the sources. Electricity and charging costs are not quantified.

When it is a good buy

At $629 (early-bird, July 22 to August 12, 2026) it is strong value for portable blue-laser scanning. [3][4][6] At $699 (MSRP, Creality store, late October 2026) it is good value for buyers who already own a capable host; portability, dual modes and 0.03 mm laboratory accuracy justify the price. Value drops sharply if a host device must be purchased. [4][5][6] Cross-shopping: Creality CR-Scan Ferret Pro at about $359 lacks the blue-laser mode and built-in screen; Creality Sermoon S1 at $2,000 or more, against which the Pika produced similar results on tested objects; Revopoint POP 4, Einstar Rockit and a Bambu Lab S1 teased for November 2026. [2][3][4][5] Alternatives: choose the Ferret Pro at about $359 if budget matters more than blue-laser detail; choose a Sermoon or Raptor-class scanner if angular accuracy under 0.02 deg or fine back-surface resolution is required.
