Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A 4%-carbon-fiber PLA in a 1 kg Ochre spool for fast printers that need stiff, matte parts. Check your nozzle before you buy: it is abrasive and needs hardened steel, and the Creality store lists paper spools that are not recommended for the CFS.

Strengths

  • TDS values of 39 MPa tensile and 5003 MPa bending modulus for a 4% carbon fiber PLA.
  • Matte finish hides layer lines and gives a carbon-fiber look.
  • Print speed range up to 300 mm/s suits fast printers such as the K1 series.
  • Creality lists the Ochre variant at $18.99 against a $34.25 compare-at price.
  • Owners report good stiffness and clean first prints at 220 C on a K1C.

Weaknesses

  • Abrasive filament wears brass nozzles; a hardened steel nozzle is required.
  • Owners report excessive PEI adhesion with top layers sticking and delaminating.
  • Extrusion friction through PTFE tubing on K1-series printers and AMS feeding and winding issues are reported.
  • First-layer failures on a K1C with a 0.6 mm nozzle are reported.
  • Moisture sensitivity: drying and dry storage are needed.
  • Dimensional tolerance of +/-0.03 mm may be loose for tight fits; the TDS values are manufacturer data with no independent test.

Full research notes and sources

The TDS gives nozzle 190-230 C, bed 45-60 C, speed 50-300 mm/s, retraction 1-5 mm and 100% infill. Because the filament is abrasive, a hardened steel nozzle is required; brass wears. One Creality forum user (Bill) reports printing on a K1C at 220 C nozzle, 50-60 C bed, 250 mm/s on smooth PEI with a 0.4 mm hardened steel nozzle, and recommends cleaning the plate with isopropyl alcohol before printing.

Moisture, adhesion and storage

Review sources describe the filament as hygroscopic, so drying before use and dry storage after opening matter. Store in a dry, ventilated place and avoid high temperature, sun and humidity.

Owner reports

Owners describe good stiffness and a matte finish that hides layer lines. A Reddit r/crealityk1 user reports a first print with default Creality Print settings was fine apart from build-plate adhesion. A Reddit r/BambuLab user reports reliable prints with AMS feeding and winding issues noted separately. Complaints include extrusion friction through Teflon tubing on K1-series printers, first-layer failures on K1C with a 0.6 mm nozzle, and AMS feeding and winding issues.

Creality lists the Ochre variant at $18.99 against a $34.25 compare-at price. SimplyPrint lists $24.99 at the Creality Store, checked 2026-10-25. At $20 or less the filament is good value for users with a fast printer, a hardened nozzle and dry storage who need stiff, matte parts. From $21 to $30 it is fair; above $30 the value is weak unless a specific color is required. The main value drivers are the 4% carbon fiber stiffness, matte finish and 300 mm/s capability rather than the “high strength” marketing alone. A hardened steel nozzle and a dry box, if not already owned, add to the cost.

Which model this is

This is the Creality Hyper Series PLA Carbon Fibre 3D Printing Filament in the Ochre color, a PLA filled with 4% carbon fiber, 1.75 mm diameter, 1 kg net weight. It is one color variant of a single product family on the Creality US store; the other colors are Black, Greyish Yellow, Purple and Dark Green. Do not confuse it with Creality CR-PLA Carbon or other non-Hyper carbon-filled lines, which the store lists separately. Color variants may differ in colorants and possibly in spool type (paper versus RFID plastic). No documented mechanical revisions were found.
