Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A carbon-fiber-filled PLA for high-speed FDM printing with a matte finish, sold in Greyish Yellow on a 1 kg spool. Check your nozzle before you buy: the abrasive filler requires hardened steel.

Strengths

  • Rated for high-speed printing up to 300 mm/s with a matte finish.
  • Manufacturer-reported tensile strength 39 MPa and bending modulus 5003 MPa.
  • 3DJake claims 30% higher flexural strength and impact resistance versus standard PLA.
  • Easy support removal leaving a smooth matte surface.
  • Greyish Yellow is $18.99 at the Creality US store.

Weaknesses

  • Carbon fiber content conflicts: 4% in the TDS versus 15% on FilaScope.
  • Abrasive filler requires a hardened steel nozzle; brass nozzles wear fast.
  • Owner reports of inconsistent spool winding and AMS feeding problems.
  • Extrusion failures through PTFE tubing on some K1 printers.
  • No independent instrumented test data for this filament.
  • Batch and quality variability reported across the Hyper PLA line.

Full research notes and sources

Nozzle 190-230 C, bed 45-60 C, speed 50-300 mm/s, retraction 1-5 mm, ambient 0-50 C. The filler is abrasive, so a hardened steel nozzle is required; brass nozzles will wear. 3DJake recommends drying at 55 C for 8 hours or 75 C for 12 hours if the spool has absorbed moisture, and storing it dry and ventilated away from heat and humidity.

Carbon fiber content: 4% or 15%

The manufacturer data sheet (v1.0, 2024-05) states 4% carbon fiber content, while FilaScope lists 15%. The basis, weight or volume, is not stated, and the discrepancy is unresolved. Treat the composition claim as unverified when comparing this filament to other PLA-CF options.

Owner reports: winding, AMS and extrusion

One Reddit user in r/BambuLab reports the filament itself has been reliable and prints very nicely, but that spool winding is sometimes inconsistent and it feeds poorly in an AMS even with a spool adapter. A thread in r/crealityk1 describes PLA-CF melting into extruder gears on a K1 Max after an overnight print with a clear hotend. A Creality Community Forum thread reports Hyper PLA-CF not extruding well through Teflon tubing on some K1 printers, with mixed preference between 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm nozzles. These are individual reports, not prevalence data.

Greyish Yellow is $18.99 at the Creality US store, with a tracked low of $17.85 on FilaScope and $26.10 at 3DJake. Value is reasonable at the lower price points given the 300 mm/s speed rating and matte finish, but weakens at $26.10, where specialty-filament pricing applies and the conflicting composition claims and batch reports matter more.

Which model this is

This page covers the Greyish Yellow, 1 kg variant of Creality Hyper Series PLA Carbon Fibre filament, SKU 3301060017, variant ID 51732429078893, EAN 6971636402893. Other colors sold under the same product are Black, Ochre, Purple and Dark Green. The Greyish Yellow ASIN is B0DDWPV64T. Do not confuse it with standard Hyper PLA or non-carbon-fiber PLA from the same Hyper Series line.

Storage and drying

Store dry and ventilated, away from heat, sun and humidity. If the spool is not used soon after opening, keep it in a dry box. Dry before printing if needed: 55 C for 8 hours or 75 C for 12 hours. Supports are reported to remove easily, leaving a smooth matte surface.
