Creality HALOT R6: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-17

Summary

The R6 is discontinued and Creality’s US store lists it at $139, Sold Out (October 2026); its most common owner complaint is prints that stop after the first layer with cured resin stuck to the vat film. [1][2] A worked hobbyist year — 4 kg of resin, two film sheets, gloves and cleaning, 300 print hours — totals about $221.58. [13][15] It is a good buy only as a tested unit with return rights under about $115; above that, the ELEGOO Mars 5 4K at $179 is the better machine. [1][18]

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

Resin, film and safety gear dominate; operating HALOT BOX needs no monthly subscription. Worked hypothetical year for a hobbyist: 4 kg of resin at $29.80 per kg = $119.20; two generic film sheets at $19.99 = $39.98; an assumed $60 for gloves, cleaning and disposal; and 40 W (not a measured R6 draw) over 300 hours = 12 kWh at an illustrative $0.20 per kWh = $2.40. Total: $221.58, excluding ventilation, wash-and-cure equipment, screen or vat replacement, shipping and taxes. At 12 kg per year, resin alone would be $357.60. No measured power draw, resin consumption, LCD lifespan or FEP lifespan exists for this SKU. [15][13][25]

When it is a good buy

Alternatives: the Mars 5 4K is the better choice for anyone who wants automatic leveling and current stock; the HALOT X1 Neo (from $239, Creality US) is the better in-brand choice when Creality software and future parts matter; the HALOT-MAGE S (from $399) only if the 130.56 × 82.62 mm plate will be a lasting capacity problem.
