Summary

A benchtop filament dryer with two independently heated chambers that hold up to four spools, for drying PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS and ASA at up to 75°C. Check two things before buying: four spool positions only pay off if you actually run that many, and the 75°C ceiling rules out engineering filaments that need 80–85°C.

Strengths

  • Four spool positions across two independently heated chambers save loading time on multicolor and multimaterial runs.
  • The 75°C ceiling covers the drying programs of many common PLA, PETG, TPU and ABS filaments.
  • Running one chamber instead of both saves energy, with published figures of 0.095 and 0.165 kWh an hour.
  • Works as a feed-through enclosure, with four spool paths and top and rear outlets.
  • Published controls include live humidity readings, separate chambers and overheat safeguards.

Weaknesses

  • Two spools in a chamber share one temperature, so four positions do not mean four independent settings.
  • The X4L lacks the full X4’s active dehumidification and one-way exhaust valve.
  • Heating moist filament is not the same as venting moisture out, and unpowered storage performance is unverified.
  • One owner saw a light spool move backwards during retraction, a possible slack or tangle risk.
  • X4 owners report tube-retention and spool-guidance quirks on the similar chassis.
  • An X4L owner reported paperwork that looked like the X4 manual, with unclear cycle controls.

X4L versus the full X4

Both units hold four spools in two chambers, but the X4 adds an 85°C ceiling and listed active dehumidification. At the prices checked in October 2026, Creality’s US store showed the X4L at $119.00 against a $159.00 comparison price, and the full X4 at $159.00 against $199.00, an upgrade of about $40. Choose the X4 only if you need the extra temperature range or the dehumidification hardware.

Running costs

Creality states 0.095 kWh per hour at 75°C for one chamber and 0.165 kWh per hour for two. For 8 hours of drying a week, 52 weeks a year (416 running hours), that is 39.52 kWh/year in one-chamber mode and 68.64 kWh/year with both chambers. At an assumed $0.20 per kWh the running cost is about $7.90 a year or $13.73 a year. These figures exclude the purchase price, taxes and filament.

Parts and storage

The included desiccant is regenerated inside the dryer; no X4L replacement part number or change interval is published. For separate sealed storage, Dry & Dry 3-gram indicating silica-gel packets were listed at $11.99 for 100 at Walmart in October 2026, but they are general-purpose desiccant, not official X4L parts. A 1-meter Capricorn TL PTFE tube (Micro Center SKU 803502) was listed at $9.99 in store. No verified X4L retail part numbers exist for rollers, seals, heaters or the fan.

Which model this is

Creality’s manufacturer link for this listing resolves to the X4L. The Lite has two heated chambers rather than four independent temperature zones, so confirm the model code and how the chambers set before you buy.
