Summary
A low-power laser engraving head that mounts on an Ender-3 S1, S1 Pro or S1 Plus and runs from the printer’s 24 V expansion port, turning it into a light-duty engraver without a second machine. Check two things before you buy: it only works if you already own a compatible printer, and it must never be plugged in while the printer is powered on.
Strengths
- A cheap way to try engraving if you already own a compatible Ender-3 S1-series printer.
- Runs from the printer’s expansion port, so there is no separate power supply or control box.
- Fixed focus is set with the supplied bar, so there is no lens to dial in.
- Engraves paper, cardboard, felt, fabric, leather, wood and bamboo.
- Light and compact at 400 g.
- Ender-3 S1 Plus is stated to already ship with laser support.
Weaknesses
- At 1.6 W it cuts only very thin material and cannot mark metal, glass or acrylic.
- Connecting or disconnecting it while the printer is powered on can burn out the motherboard.
- The stock laser firmware does not behave like standard GRBL, so LightBurn and LaserGRBL need manual tuning.
- The built-in carbon filter removes only part of the smoke, so room ventilation still matters.
- It is a sealed head with no user-serviceable parts, so repairs go through Creality support.
- No independent instrumented test of this exact module exists.

Engraving, not cutting
This is a marking tool, not a cutter. Creality’s own comparison lists the 1.6 W at 2 mm basswood, “very delicate but slower,” and rules out 5 mm basswood, while an owner thread reports cutting only about 2–4 mm of thin wood and states plainly that a diode this weak cannot mark metal, glass or acrylic. Creality’s Falcon reference table gives starting settings of 81% power at 1500 mm/min to engrave 2 mm linden plywood, and 81% power at 200 mm/min to cut 0.2 mm kraft paper. Those are manufacturer values, not independent measurements.
Wiring and the powered-off rule
Creality’s manual and store guide both warn that the module must be connected or disconnected only with the printer switched off, because doing it live can burn out the motherboard. The warning is not theoretical: one owner reported destroying an Ender 3 S1 mainboard during installation, and a LightBurn-forum owner saw the module stop lasing entirely with the red power light still on and no PWM signal, after which Creality replaced the motherboard. The connector is keyed, so check the cable direction before you push it in.
Firmware and software
The stock “LASER” firmware diverges from standard GRBL, which is why LightBurn and LaserGRBL owners report missing or inverted power control and trouble finding the right device settings. One owner could not work out the correct LightBurn settings for the module on an S1 Pro, and others have described very low output even at full power. Expect to tune the firmware and slicer yourself, and treat any settings you copy from a forum as a starting point rather than a fixed answer.
Filter, upkeep and warranty
Creality’s maintenance list is short: clean the module with a dry cloth while powered off, keep it within the rated temperature, wear goggles, put a laser-impenetrable plate under the work, keep a fire extinguisher nearby and never run it unattended. The carbon filter needs periodic replacement, and a community estimate suggests the module’s own fan and filter clear only about half the air and remove about 60% of the particulates from that portion, so enclosure or room ventilation still does the heavy lifting. The module is sealed, with no published spare-parts list for the diode, fan or driver board, so the practical repair path is Creality support. Warranty is listed as up to 12 months on the laser-module line, though an exact term specific to this SKU was not confirmed on a first-party page.
Is it worth it?
If you already own a compatible Ender-3 S1-series printer and want to try fine-detail engraving cheaply, the 1.6 W can be worth the entry price. Creality’s US store lists it at $63.20 (2026-10-16), with an option at $56.88 and volume tiers down from there. If your goal is cutting or harder materials, skip it: the 5 W module runs $89.10 and the 10 W module $143.28, and either is a better fit. Budget for sample material, an under-plate, goggles and spare carbon filters as well.
Which model this is
This page covers the CV-Laser add-on module only, the 24 V / 1.6 W head that draws power from the printer. Creality also sells a standalone “Creality Laser Module” kit in 1.6 W, 5 W and 10 W versions that includes its own control box, 100-240 V power adapter, goggles and Type-C cable; that is a different SKU and a different box. The listing is ASIN B09R6NQ2K1, and the manufacturer item number is 4001100015.
