Summary

A glossy silk-finish PLA filament sold by Creality in 1.75mm 1kg spools, aimed at display prints that need a shiny surface. Plan to tune temperature, cooling and retraction instead of trusting a stock silk profile, and keep the spool dry.

Strengths

  • Glossy silk finish on a standard, easy-printing PLA base.
  • Sold direct by Creality’s US store with 14-day returns and up to a 12-month warranty.
  • Creality sells it in many colors, with White among the listed colorways.
  • Owners of silk PLA generally say it is finicky to learn but can produce great results and terrific colors.
  • Creality Cloud posts show dual-color silk PLA printing well on a K2 Pro.

Weaknesses

  • Two Creality silk PLA owners on a K1 Max report brittle prints that break during support removal or mid-print, with no settings combination working.
  • A Bambu Lab X1 Carbon owner reports stringing and surface bumps with Creality gold silk PLA.
  • An Ender 3 owner reports silk PLA clogging faster at 215°C.
  • No instrumented laboratory test of this exact filament exists, and the closest test keeps its detailed results behind a paywall.
  • Silk PLA generally absorbs moisture faster, has weaker layer adhesion and can slowly clog the hot end.
  • Silk prints are easier to break than standard PLA.

Which model this is

This page covers Creality CR-Silk 1.75mm PLA in the White 1kg spool, listed on Creality’s mvip storefront as item 3301120004. The matching listing carries ASIN B0BZCY3JX5. It is a distinct filament line from Creality’s CR-PLA, CR-PLA Carbon, CR-Wood, Hyper PLA and Ender-PLA, which use different formulations.

Evidence and test data

No established outlet has published an instrumented test of CR-Silk. MyTechFun’s Creality filament roundup is the closest independent work: it ran CR-Silk alongside other Creality filaments for about 40 hours, but the per-filament results sit behind a Patreon paywall, so only the scope of the test is usable here. Owner evidence is thin but consistent, so treat the brittling and stringing reports as real experiences with this family of filament rather than a measured failure rate.

Settings and handling

Silk PLA is not regular PLA with a different color. Material-class guidance recommends a 215–230°C nozzle, a 55–65°C bed, 70–80% fan, slower outer walls at 40–50mm/s and more retraction than standard PLA. Another guide puts silk at 205–220°C with full cooling, and the eSUN eSilk-PLA data sheet for a comparable silk filament lists 190–230°C extruder, 45–60°C bed, 100% fan and 40–100mm/s with a density of 1.21 g/cm3. Default regular-PLA profiles are a common cause of a bad first result.

Moisture and storage

Silk PLA absorbs moisture faster than standard PLA. Drying before use typically means 50–55°C for 2–6 hours, and a dry box or filament dryer is a practical extra cost. Long prints may also need periodic hot-end cleaning.

Creality’s US store lists the White 1kg spool at $19.99 against a $28.99 reference, with tiered per-spool pricing of $16.99, $15.99 and $14.99 at 5, 10 and 20 spools. Creality’s mvip storefront lists it at $21.85, the EU store at €25.99 against €36.99, and the AU store at $37.99 against $40.99. Competitor silk PLA sits close by: Polymaker’s Panchroma Dual Silk at $22.99, SUNLU Silk PLA+ in a $20–25 class, and Filamatrix Silk PLA at $28.99. At or below $20 direct from Creality it is a reasonable buy; above $25 the case weakens because other silk PLAs have larger owner bases.
