Printing it

The additives that give silk PLA its shine interfere with layer bonding, so the material is more brittle across layers than plain PLA. A manufacturer figure of 35 MPa tensile and 67 MPa bending strength applies to the Blue item, but that is an in-plane number; a competing silk brand’s data sheet shows across-layer tensile at roughly half its in-plane value. In practice, print hotter than plain PLA, slow the outer wall for gloss, and expect to tune temperature, flow and retraction per color. General silk guidance and a Bambu Lab thread both describe weak layer bonding and brittle parts when the profile is left at standard PLA settings, and Creality’s own forum notes that different colors of the same range print differently because of their additives.

Owner evidence specific to Creality silk matches this. Two r/Creality threads describe silk prints that looked fine but broke during support removal or handling, while the same owners reported no trouble with standard or Hyper PLA. Most negative Creality-filament rants found were about Ender and standard PLA, not CR-Silk, and do not apply here.

Creality’s US store listed the 1 kg CR-Silk spool at $19.99 against a $28.99 list, a $9 saving, with Blue in stock (Creality US store, 2026-10-16). The international VIP Mall listed it at $21.85, the EU store at €25.99 against €36.99, and the UK store at £19.99 against £22.99. Bulk ladders cut the price further, roughly 15% off at 5 rolls and up to 25% off at 20. A dryer is a useful extra if the spool is stored in humid conditions, but there is no other consumable and no lock-in.
