Summary

A budget silk PLA on a 1.75 mm, 1 kg spool in Red Copper, made for decorative prints where a glossy surface matters more than strength. Expect to print slower than standard PLA, to find thin parts brittle, and to see no published mechanical specs from Creality.

Strengths

  • The high-gloss silk finish is the reason to buy it.
  • Positioned for figurines, display models and artwork.
  • Budget price: $15.99 for Red Copper, down to $14.99 at 20 units.
  • 1.75 mm on a 1 kg spool fits the common FDM printers Creality claims.
  • The line includes Golden, White, Purple and Blue alongside Red Copper.
  • One Reddit reply reports smoother, stronger prints after raising temperature and adjusting flow.

Weaknesses

  • More brittle than standard PLA; thin pieces break easily in owner reports.
  • Slower than standard PLA: Creality recommends 50 mm/s out of a 40-80 mm/s range.
  • No published density, tensile, impact or heat-distortion data.
  • No independent instrumented test exists; every performance claim traces to Creality.
  • Owners report inconsistent shine, slight under-extrusion and a rougher surface than standard PLA.
  • Creality’s own guidance conflicts: the store says 50 mm/s while the K1C wiki lists 120 mm/s.

Gloss and settings

The glossy finish is the point, and it comes with slower printing. Creality’s parameter guide lists 190-230°C nozzle (200°C recommended), 50-60°C bed (50°C recommended), ambient below 60°C and a cautious 40-80 mm/s speed with 50 mm/s recommended, slower than the CR-PLA line. Its K1C table instead lists PLA-silk at 230°C, 45°C bed and 120 mm/s, so the first-party guidance itself is not fully consistent. Community advice agrees on the slow side, keeping silk at or below about 60 mm/s, and one reply reports better results at 230°C with a 60°C bed and adjusted flow. Treat 50-60 mm/s as the safe envelope.

Brittleness owners report

Recurring owner reports call silk PLA far more brittle than standard PLA, with thin pieces breaking easily and a figure printing in Creality silk breaking apart while the same printer ran Hyper PLA without issue. A Creality forum user reported inconsistent shine, slight under-extrusion and a rougher texture when switching from standard PLA, and a reply there advises calibrating per color because pigments and additives change behavior. A K1-series owner advises removing the printer top for silk because the enclosure runs too warm. These are signals from a handful of posts, not a defect rate.

What you pay

On the Creality US store, Red Copper is $15.99 against a $28.99 compare-at price, while other CR-Silk colors are $19.99. Volume pricing brings 5 units to $16.99 each, 10 to $15.99 and 20 to $14.99. At $15.99 it is an acceptable buy for glossy display prints; above about $20 the competing silk PLAs with published data become the more defensible choice.

Which color and item this is

This page covers the Red Copper colorway, item number 3301120002, ASIN B0BZD2JBJG. The same CR-Silk line also sells Golden, White, Purple and Blue under their own item numbers. Color variants use different pigments but no mechanical revision is documented, so treat them as the same product. Do not merge it with Creality’s CR-PLA, CR-Wood, CR-PLA Carbon or Hyper PLA lines.
