Summary
A dual-color silk PLA for decorative prints that shifts between gold and silver and comes off the printer glossy with no post-processing. Buy it for the look, not the strength: silk PLA is more brittle than standard PLA, drinks moisture, and needs slower speeds and per-spool calibration.
Strengths
- Glossy, pearlescent finish straight off the printer, with no polishing or coating.
- The Golden-silver variant shifts between gold and silver for a metallic look on display models.
- Standard 1.75 mm diameter and a 1 kg spool fit the common FDM setup, and Creality claims 99% printer compatibility.
- A published ±0.02 mm tolerance gives you a starting point for calibration.
- Vacuum-sealed with desiccant, so the spool arrives dry.
- Prints inside the ordinary PLA temperature window, so most printers can run it without hardware changes.
Weaknesses
- Silk PLA is more brittle than standard PLA and can snap on thin parts.
- It clogs more often than standard PLA, especially at low nozzle temperatures or with heavy retraction.
- It absorbs moisture faster than regular PLA and often needs drying before a long print.
- The gold-to-silver shift can look weaker than the photos unless you slow down and raise the temperature.
- Colors in the same CR-Silk line behave differently, so one spool’s profile may not transfer to another.
- No independent instrumented test of this exact variant is published, so the finish and accuracy figures are manufacturer-stated.

What silk PLA is for
Silk PLA is a look-first material. It trades some mechanical strength for a glossy surface that needs no finish work, which makes it a fit for figurines, vases, display models and props. The dual-color Golden-silver effect reads best on large, curved surfaces that catch light from different angles. For parts that take load, snap into place or live outdoors, standard PLA or a tougher blend is the safer choice; the color shift is not a strength upgrade.
Print settings and handling
Treat silk PLA as its own profile rather than a standard PLA spool. Creality lists 190–240 °C at the nozzle and a 25–45 °C bed for the line, while a gold-variant profile goes to 50–70 °C, so start on the manufacturer numbers and tune from there. Community reports point the same way: clogs are more common at low temperatures and with heavy retraction, wet spools expand and fail partway, and each color may need its own flow and temperature tower. Dry the spool if you live somewhere humid, keep it in a sealed container with desiccant between prints, and slow travel moves to limit stringing.
Creality’s US store lists the Golden-silver variant at $15.99, down from a $32.99 list price, and the standard CR-Silk line at $19.99 from $28.99; the EU store lists the line at €25.99 from €36.99 (Creality US and EU stores, October 2026). Bulk discounts run from 15% off at 5+ rolls to 25% off at 20+ rolls. The value is the finish and the dual-color shift, not the specs: the accuracy and strength figures are ordinary for PLA, so pay for the appearance you actually want and not for a bigger number on the box.
Which model this is
Creality sells one CR-Silk spool across many colors, and identifies them by item number: Golden is 3301120001 and Purple is 3301120005, for example. Golden-silver is the dual-color option, sold alongside single-color CR-Silk in White, Gold, Silver, Blue, Purple and Red Copper. The US listing for this color is ASIN B0C7BX93GJ. Check the item number before ordering, because the silk variants share a specification sheet and differ only in dye and additives.
