Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A consumable pack of 400 self-adhesive reflective marker dots for optical 3D scanning, sold as ten 40-dot sheets.

Strengths

  • Adds trackable features to smooth or repetitive objects where geometry-based tracking fails.
  • Low cost per target: about $0.03 per dot at the $12.99 price.
  • Can be staged on a scanning mat or turntable to keep adhesive off the original object.
  • Ten-sheet pack is enough for several small-to-medium jobs if placement is economical.
  • Available directly from the manufacturer with quantity discounts.

Weaknesses

  • Adhesive removal is manual and repetitive; used dots are effectively single-use.
  • No independently measured reflectivity, adhesive strength or residue data for this exact pack.
  • Compatibility is not universal; some scanner software restricts target size or mixed sizes.
  • 6 mm dots can be too large for small parts or narrow fields of view.
  • Warranty does not cover the dots as consumables.

What these dots do

Marker points give an optical scanner reference positions to maintain tracking on smooth, plain or repetitive surfaces. They do not add surface resolution, generate 3D data without a scanner, repair a bad calibration, or guarantee a particular scan accuracy. Creality’s alignment guidance calls for random, irregular layouts rather than straight lines or triangles, retaining at least three common markers across overlapping scans and at least 30% scan overlap. A UNBC tutorial for the Raptor Pro advises at least four markers visible per frame, with mode-dependent spacing around 60-100 mm for cross-line work and 20-50 mm for parallel-line work. Revopoint recommends five 6 mm markers visible per frame at roughly 3-4 cm spacing, and EINSTAR suggests 8-15 per frame (minimum four) at roughly 6-10 cm spacing for its own equipment.

Placement and tracking

Spacing rules come from different scanners and modes, so treat them as starting points and confirm against the live preview of your own machine. Some Creality Raptor owners report mixing 3 mm and 6 mm targets successfully, while other vendors warn that mixed sizes can affect accuracy. Creality’s UK and EU store descriptions claim broad compatibility with Creality, EINSTAR/Shining 3D, Peel3D/Creaform and Revopoint products, but some software versions restrict accepted size, reflectivity or mixed-size tracking. August 2026 owners in r/3DScanning warned that cheap non-reflective stickers may not be detected by a Creality Raptor, so verify optical compatibility before buying a substitute.

Removal and surface risk

Applying and peeling hundreds of points is repetitive labor, and owners describe mounting markers on reusable printed or magnetic stands instead. Product listings say the dots remove easily, but no exact-SKU residue test was found for painted, lacquered, paper, fragile or porous surfaces. Put dots on a clean reusable mat around the subject where the scan mode allows, and patch-test before sticking them to a valuable finish.

Editorial thresholds: up to $13 delivered is fair for the exact 400 Creality dots when needed; $14-18 delivered is conditional on faster shipping, returns or a machine-specific compatibility need; above $20 delivered generally favors the Revopoint 500-count set or another verified marker set. At $12.99 the pack works out to about 3.25 cents per marker, or about $0.0292 at the $11.69 option price. Illustrative consumption: 100 stickers a year is $3.25 worth of pack contents, two packs a year is $25.98, and ten packs a year is $129.90, before shipping, waste and labor. The biggest hidden cost is placement time, not the sticker.

Is it worth it?

Buy it if you already use marker tracking on a compatible scanner and need a familiar, low-cost consumable. Skip it if your scanner runs marker-free successfully, if you are scanning very small parts that need 3 mm dots, or if you need permanent reusable targets.

Which model this is

This is the 6 mm reflective marker set sold in ten 40-dot sheets (400 dots), identified by reseller SKU 4007010188. It is not the 3 mm variant, and not the 20-sheet/800-dot (4007010187) or 40-sheet/2,000-dot (4008060156) packs. Match the sheet count and SKU before comparing prices.
