Craftsman V20 Cordless Drill Set and Impact Driver (CMCK201D1): problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-16

Summary

A brushed-motor V20 two-tool kit — CMCD702 drill/driver (up to 300 UWO, 90 holes per charge) plus CMCF801 impact driver (up to 1,800 in-lbs, 120 fasteners per charge) — with one 2Ah battery and a charger in the box. The issues owners hit are a warranty conflict between the kit page and the tool pages, and heavy-drilling limits measured on the closely related brushed CMCD700. Running costs are just bits and eventual spare batteries; it is a fair buy near its $149.00 Ace Hardware list price and a poor one next to Craftsman’s own brushless RP kits.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

There are no cord or carbon-brush consumables. The documented cost drivers are extra V20 batteries (the kit ships with one 2Ah pack), VERSATRACK clips and accessories sold separately, and drill and impact bits. The sources capture no battery prices, bit prices or typical annual consumption, so a yearly total cannot be computed. [1][4]

When it is a good buy

Named alternatives: the CMCK201D2 (same two tools with two 2Ah batteries) is the better choice when you need a spare battery in the box [10]; the brushless CMCK211C2 kit (CMCD713/CMCF813) is the better choice when you want brushless power and runtime [1]; the CMCK404D2 4-tool kit reuses the same CMCD702 and CMCF801 if you want more tools on the same batteries [9]. The CMCF801 and CMCD702 are also sold as single kits (CMCF801D1, CMCD702D1) if you only need one tool [2][3].
