Summary
A brushed-motor 1/4-in impact driver kit for DIY and home projects, sold with one 2.0 Ah battery and a charger for $99 at Lowe’s and Ace Hardware. No independent test of this exact model exists, so decide before you buy whether the brushless RP Craftsman tools are worth the extra money.
Strengths
- Brushed-motor kit with a 1/4-in hex quick-release chuck for one-handed bit changes.
- One 2.0 Ah battery and a charger in the box, with a 3-year limited warranty.
- Up to 1,800 in-lbs MAX torque and 2,900 RPM no-load, a headline the brushless RP models also use.
- VERSATRACK compatibility and an onboard LED for dark cabinets and attics.
- V20 batteries are shared across the Craftsman 20V tool range.
Weaknesses
- No independent instrumented test of the exact CMCF801 exists, so torque and runtime rest on the maker’s claims.
- Brushed motor; owners in r/Craftsman say the Brushless RP tools are stronger and last longer.
- The torque figure conflicts: the manufacturer says 1,800 in-lbs, Lowe’s copy says 1,700.
- The 120-fastener runtime is a controlled test with one screw and one wood, not a universal number.
- The kit has one 2.0 Ah battery and no spare, bag or belt clip listed.
- No CMCF801-specific owner thread was found, so long-term failure modes are unknown.

Torque and what the numbers mean
Until an instrumented test settles it, treat the real number as somewhere between 1,700 and 1,800 in-lbs. The comparison Craftsman uses is against a RYOBI PCL235 with a PBP006 battery, so it is not a class-wide benchmark.
Brushless or brushed
The kit uses a brushed motor. Owners in r/Craftsman describe the brushed V20 tools as good, serviceable tools but say the Brushless RP models are stronger and last longer. Craftsman reserves its runtime and consistency claims for the brushless line. If you plan to use the tool hard, the RP models are the upgrade path.
Batteries, parts and running costs
The kit includes one CMCB202 2.0 Ah battery and a CMCB101 charger. Replacement batteries and chargers are sold separately, and Craftsman lists a CMCB204-2 4.0 Ah two-pack as a related accessory. There is no bag or belt clip listed for this kit. V20 batteries work across the Craftsman 20V range, so a second tool can share the pack you already own.
Is it worth it?
At $99 the kit is a fair entry point for a DIYer already in the Craftsman V20 battery ecosystem, or one who values the 3-year warranty and the retail and parts channel behind it. Above $119 the brushless RP models and other brands’ brushless DIY drivers become the comparison, and by $120 the brushed CMCF801 is hard to justify. If you are not already committed to V20 batteries, the lack of CMCF801-specific test data is a real handicap.
Which model this is
This page covers the CRAFTSMAN V20 1/4-in cordless impact driver, tool model CMCF801, kit SKU CMCF801D1 (Lowe’s item 6812911), with one CMCB202 2.0 Ah battery and a CMCB101 charger. The kit’s US Amazon listing is ASIN B0GNBFKYBD. Do not confuse it with the older brushed CMCF800, the brushless RP CMCF813 and CMCF830, or the brushless CMCF820; those are different tools.
