Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A 2.4 GHz wireless over-ear gaming headset with 50 mm dual-chamber drivers, an aluminum frame and a manufacturer-rated 300-hour battery. Check the microphone question before you buy: reviewers disagree on whether it is clear or unusable in practice.

Strengths

  • Strong, separated audio from the 50 mm dual-chamber drivers, with bass that stays controlled.
  • Comfortable for long sessions, including for glasses wearers, at a light weight.
  • Durable aluminum frame and simple, tactile onboard controls.
  • Free spatial audio on PC through DTS Headphone:X via Ngenuity.

Weaknesses

  • Microphone quality is disputed: three outlets call it clear, one calls it unusable unless held close.
  • No Bluetooth and no wired backup; the USB-A dongle is a single point of failure.
  • DTS Headphone:X and Ngenuity features are PC-only; Xbox is not supported.
  • Ngenuity software is repeatedly criticized as convoluted or bare-bones.
  • A scooped sound signature with recessed mids may need EQ presets for some listeners.

Battery life

The manufacturer rates the battery at up to 300 hours at 50% headphone volume, and independent testers did not drain it in normal use: IGN saw 90% to about 50% over two weeks of daily use, and GamesRadar+ reached 110 hours at 70% remaining. A full charge takes 4.5 hours. The battery is not user-replaceable, so expect gradual capacity loss over time.

Microphone and voice chat

PCMag and TechRadar call the mic clear and excellent, IGN calls it clear and consistent, and GamesRadar+ calls it very poor, crackly and muffled unless held very close. There is no quantitative failure rate, so treat the mic as an open question if voice chat matters to you. The headset ships with a detachable mic and pop filter.

Compatibility and the dongle

Xbox is not supported, and Mac users lose Ngenuity and DTS Headphone:X. There is no Bluetooth and no 3.5 mm wired connection, so losing or breaking the USB-A dongle leaves the headset unusable.

Comfort, build and sound

Comfort and light weight are praised across reviews, including for glasses wearers and long sessions. The aluminum frame and build quality are repeatedly praised. Audio is strong and separated, though PCMag notes a scooped sound signature with recessed mids that EQ presets can mitigate.

Is it worth it?

At the $199.99 MSRP it competes with feature-richer rivals such as the JBL Quantum 800, SteelSeries Arctis 7+ and Razer Kraken V3 Pro that offer Bluetooth or wired backup at similar prices. At around $160 it is a stronger value, and the observed $108.99 at Best Buy makes it a strong value for PC, PS4 and PS5 users who do not need a reliable multiplayer mic. It is not a good fit for Xbox, Bluetooth or wired use, or for buyers who depend on voice chat until the mic question is settled.
