CalDigit TS5 Plus: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-19

Summary

Heat is the recurring problem: owners report external case temperatures of 55–70°C under load, with USB dropouts and sleep/wake failures that firmware updates and better airflow reduce. Running costs are electricity only — the dock has no consumables or subscriptions, and the 330W power supply is the only draw. At $499.99 from CalDigit direct (October 2026) it is the only Thunderbolt 5 dock that combines 10GbE with 20 ports; if you do not need 10GbE, the smaller TS5 at about $370 (Windows Central, 2025) is the better buy.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

No replaceable parts or consumables reported. The dock is a sealed aluminum chassis and no user-serviceable parts are documented. [1][2]

Yearly running cost

There is nothing to buy besides electricity: no filters, pods or subscriptions, and no accessory lock-in. The 330W power supply is the only draw, and no yearly dollar figure is documented for it. [4]

When it is a good buy

Check your host first: full performance needs an 80Gb/s Thunderbolt 5 or USB4 v2 connection; Thunderbolt 3 Windows PCs and plain USB-C hosts are not compatible. [1][2]

The built-in 10GbE is the main justification for the price — separate Thunderbolt-to-10GbE adapters cost $119–249 (Windows Central, June 2025). [4][6]
