Summary

A 1.7 L brushed stainless kettle with five preset temperatures and a 20-minute keep-warm, aimed at tea and French-press drinkers. Check the beeping before you buy: it sounds on every button press and at the end of the cycle, with no mute.

Strengths

  • Five one-touch presets cover green, white, oolong, French press and black tea.
  • Reviews Inside measured the presets within a few degrees of target.
  • A full 57 oz boils in just under seven minutes.
  • The soft-opening lid releases steam slowly and cuts splashing.
  • The 360° cordless base with cord storage pours from any angle.
  • Keep-warm holds temperature for 20 minutes for sequential cups.

Weaknesses

  • It beeps on every button press and three times at the end, with no mute.
  • The five temperatures are fixed; there is no custom dial for a specific degree.
  • Owners report lid, handle and base contact-point failures after roughly one to two years.
  • The warranty is only one year.
  • One owner calls it too loud for an upper-price-range kettle.
  • The base is bulky for small counters.

Temperature control and heating

The BKE720BSS holds 1.7 L and runs a 1500 W concealed element. The five presets are fixed at 175°F, 185°F, 195°F, 200°F and 212°F, so a target between them is not reachable. Breville does not publish a standardized boil time, and keep-warm is not automatic: you press the button to start it.

Beeping and alerts

Every button press beeps, and the kettle finishes with three beeps and leaves the selected button lit for a minute. There is no documented mute or silent mode. Owners across ProductReview.com.au, Macy’s and Best Buy Q&A flag the noise as disruptive. If someone in your kitchen takes calls while the kettle runs, this is the first thing to check.

Durability, repairs and upkeep

Maintenance is descaling: mineral deposits cause brown stains on the concealed stainless element, not rust, and Breville says to wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and avoid alkaline cleaners. Repairability is limited; Breville does not publish a parts catalog for this model and points buyers to replacement. The warranty is one year, void for commercial use, cosmetic damage, misuse, non-authorized sellers and missing proof of purchase. ProductReview.com.au owners report lid cracking, a button pad failing after the warranty, base contact points losing connection after about a year and plastic handle degradation; Macy’s summary notes handle and lid breaking after a year or two. These are anecdotal signals from small samples, not defect rates.

Is it worth it?

At the $99.95 to $109.95 prices seen at Crate & Barrel, Whole Latte Love and Breville direct, it is a solid buy for preset-driven brewing: five accurate temperatures, a 20-minute keep-warm, a soft lid and a stainless body with a one-year warranty. Breville lists it at $109.95. Above about $130 it weakens, because the Cuisinart CPK-17 offers six presets including a custom dial, a 30-minute keep-warm and a three-year warranty, and Wirecutter currently prefers it. Between $110 and $130 the two are close.

Which model this is

This page covers the US 120 V Breville BKE720BSS, the brushed stainless Temp Select. It is not the 230 V BKE720 sold in the UK and Australia, which is labelled in Celsius, and it is separate from sibling models such as the IQ Kettle BKE820XL, the Smart Kettle Luxe BKE845 and the Soft Top Pure. The reference listing is ASIN B0117NT3ME.
