Breville Bambino Plus: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-05

Summary

Most of what gets reported against this machine is physical rather than electrical: a stiff group head, heavy vibration while it works, an exterior that tarnishes quickly, a small drip tray with a slow full indicator, and a steam wand that only moves up and down. The recurring spend is small, with cleaning tablets and descaling solution at $14 each from Breville’s own store, but Breville publishes no replacement intervals and no wattage, so a yearly figure cannot be worked out. It is worth buying at or below the $399.95 Breville store sale price if you want an automatic milk wand in a narrow footprint; at the $499.95 list price it is hard to justify against the alternatives named below.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

Two consumables have a published store cost: cleaning tablets at $14 and descaling solution at $14 in Breville’s own store, as reported in May 2025 [4]. Breville publishes no descale or cleaning-cycle interval, and its BES500 instruction manual could not be read, so the number of bottles a year is unknown; no wattage or voltage figure is published, so electricity cannot be calculated either. Coffee is a personal choice that no source covers, and the grinder is a one-time purchase rather than a yearly cost. Not enough data.

When it is a good buy

Breville’s own store is the reference point: $499.95 list, shown at $399.95 when checked 2026-10-03 [1]. Tom’s Guide listed $499 in May 2025 and said it is often on sale for about $399, with its retailer links at Breville, Crate & Barrel and Target all at $399.95 [4].
