Summary

A compact electric standing desk offered in 36, 48 and 58-inch tops with dual motors, a 28 to 47.3-inch height range and a 275 lb capacity. Check your seated elbow height against that 28-inch floor before ordering; the drawer, cable tray and a 36, 48 or 58-inch top are priced separately, and the $549 figure is a configurator starting price rather than a guaranteed delivered quote.

Strengths

  • A 36-inch motorized desk is uncommon and keeps the same lift hardware and warranty as the larger sizes.
  • Dual-motor 275 lb capacity with quiet travel at 1.3 in/sec.
  • Two preset heights plus optional sedentary reminders suit a single seated and standing posture.
  • Threaded tabletop inserts let the optional drawer and cable tray bolt on without drilling.
  • Owner reports include one charcoal Duo used for just over two years without problems.
  • Ten-year written warranty on a new unit, with Branch supplying covered parts rather than only replacing whole desks.

Weaknesses

  • The 28-inch minimum surface is fixed; shorter seated users may need a keyboard tray or a different desk.
  • A 48 × 24 top is shallower than a standard 30-inch worktop and can feel cramped.
  • Only two memory positions and a small-screen paddle menu, which is awkward for several users.
  • The drawer and cable organizer are paid extras, starting at $99 and $59 respectively.
  • A heavy two-carton delivery that Branch wants two people to invert after assembly.
  • The return policy is not perfectly clear on restocking versus return-label fees.

Fit, seated height and depth

The Duo’s 28-inch lowest surface is often the deciding factor. One r/StandingDesks owner bought it after a positive editorial recommendation but found the lowest position too tall for neutral typing, even after raising the chair. Taller lift range is not always better, so measure relaxed elbow height from the floor first. Depth is the second constraint: 48 × 24 leaves less room than a 30-inch worktop for a full keyboard, mouse, stand and laptop.

Clamp-on accessories need planning. A Branch representative cautioned that a monitor arm may not mount in the back center where the cable organizer sits. The small drawer fits the 36-inch desktop and the large drawer fits the 48/58-inch. Leave slack in power and monitor cables so they do not pinch when the desk moves.

Finishes and materials

Branch lists laminated MDF or oak veneer on powder-coated steel. Walnut and other woodgrain names are laminate over engineered wood, not solid hardwood; only the separate natural-oak veneer selection is real veneer. The October 2026 configurator offers many laminate colors and frame colors. The brand’s advice is that laminated surfaces resist everyday marks, while hot mugs still belong on a coaster.

Assembly, damage and returns

Independent experiences vary, and Branch’s own assembly guide calls for a second person to flip the desk upright. Keep both original cartons until the desk passes inspection; shipping damage should be reported within three days.

New direct orders have a 30-day like-new return window in original packaging, with the buyer paying applicable standing-desk return-label cost. The same policy page contains overlapping restocking wording, so ask for the exact charge in writing before ordering. Open-box units are final sale. Third-party suitability for a 10-year claim must be verified.

Power and running cost

The desk has no mandatory subscription or replaceable battery. Its motors draw power only when moving, so electricity is minor. The exact active and standby wall draw is not published. As an illustration, four full sit-to-stand cycles of 30 seconds each on 250 workdays at a hypothetical 150 W draw works out to about 1.25 kWh per year, or about $0.25 at $0.20 per kWh. At a hypothetical idle draw of 0.2 W around the clock for 365 days the total is about 1.75 kWh, about $0.35; at 2 W it is about 17.52 kWh, about $3.50. Neither the wattage nor the cycle time was measured for this model, so treat these as scale estimates.

Optional hardware dwarfs that. The small drawer is $99 and a second selection shows $119, while the cable organizer starts at $59 and the desk tray at $45. A separately invoiced setup service is also optional.

Reliability and support

No defensible Duo-specific failure rate was located for motors, handsets, control boxes, legs or tops. One owner reported trouble-free use for just over two years, but that is one anecdote, not a population record. The assembly manual covers handset errors 11, 12 and 13, plus height-lock behaviour and sedentary reminders, with a reset procedure that holds the paddle down for about five seconds. Those are documented recovery steps, not evidence that the errors are common.

Branch’s warranty runs from delivery, covers the continental US and Canada, is non-transferable and applies to the original purchaser through Branch or an authorized seller. It excludes misuse, overloading above 275 lb, certain chemicals, unauthorized work, improper third-party assembly, out-of-region reshipping and non-authorized sellers. Warranty parts are supplied, but a verified complete repair case was not found in the sources read.

Is it worth it?

Branch’s October 2026 configurator lists the new Duo from $549, with size and finish changes and accessories adding to that. A separate economics supply listing was $648.99 for a 48-inch walnut/black configuration dated October 15, 2026, but stock and checkout were not verified. A November 2025 Architectural Digest piece mentioned a 15 percent seasonal discount and the author had seen the desk below $500, confirming that discounts have happened without proving one is current.

Working thresholds for a new laminate Duo: strong value at $450 or less delivered, good at $451 to $525, reasonable at $526 to $575, conditional at $576 to $650 for the 48-inch laminate, and generally worse above $650 before add-ons. At that point compare UPLIFT’s V3 laminate, listed from $599 at 42 × 30 inches with a 15-year warranty and a 22.6 to 48.7-inch range, or Vari’s ComfortEdge 48 × 30 at a $799 published list before order-specific coupons. Choose the Vari when a deeper, curved-front top matters. Branch’s Tria starts at $749 and covers 25.5 to 48.9 inches if the Duo’s 28-inch minimum is too high. Branch remains the better pick for a 36-inch footprint, its style and the drawer ecosystem.

Which model this is

This is the Duo Standing Desk, not Branch’s older Standing Desk, the larger Tria, the stationary Daily Desk or the open-box Duo. It is sold in 36, 48 and 58-inch tops. The internal catalog identifier relates to the 48-inch configuration, but finishes, leg colors, delivery and checkout pricing must be verified for the exact variant selected. Some early sellers called a 48-inch configuration walnut/black at $648.99.
