Summary
A compact 7-inch eReader with a Carta 1300 screen, physical page-turn buttons and full Android 13 with the Google Play Store. Check the battery before you buy: Android runs it down in about a week of reading, not months.
Strengths
- The Carta 1300 display is rated on par with the current Kindle Paperwhite (2024).
- Physical page-turn buttons sit on a 7-inch body and double as volume keys.
- Full Android 13 and the Google Play Store mean no ecosystem lock-in.
- Twenty document formats including CBZ, plus microSD and USB-C sideloading.
- At 195 g the body is light and the textured rear grips well.
- BOOX commits to free firmware updates for all models for more than three years.
Weaknesses
- Battery life is about a week of reading, not months, and sleep-mode drain is significant.
- There is no waterproofing; the coating is water-repellent and fades over time.
- Writing is rated below par, and there is no annotation inside NeoReader.
- A faint vertical shadow or band can run along one edge under the front light.
- The menu system is dense, with library settings hidden under a “More” menu.
- The built-in speaker is tinny and low-volume, and there is no headphone jack.

Battery life and Android
TechRadar measured roughly a week of reading at two hours a day with Wi-Fi on and brightness at medium, and AndroidGuys charged every three to four days with moderate use. Both reviewers call the drain the cost of running Android, and both note the browser and music player draw faster still. Charging from 9-10% to full took about two hours on a 65 W USB-C wall charger; there is no quick charging.
The fix is to turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off, dim the front light and disable background sync, but that gives up the open-platform advantages the device is bought for. Buyers who plan to use third-party apps should treat USB-C charging as routine.
Water, build and the screen band
Treat the Go 7 as an indoor or dry-weather reader, not a poolside one.
AndroidGuys documents a faint vertical shadow or band along one edge of the screen with the front light on at mid-to-high brightness, attributes it to LED placement under the glass, and says it is not present on every unit. It does not affect readability, but it is the kind of thing you notice once and cannot unsee. At 6.4 mm the body is thin enough that TechRadar found fingers can hurt over long sessions, so a case helps.
The limitation that matters most is the software: the Go 7 has no global handwriting, so you cannot annotate or markup books inside NeoReader. Stylus input by default lives in the native Notes and Calendar apps, and FreeMark lets you write over any app without annotating. The pen is a separate purchase, and Good e-Reader reported the InkSense stylus sold out within about a month of launch in June 2025.
Which model this is and what it costs
This page covers the monochrome BOOX Go 7, the 7-inch member of the Go 7 Series, sold by BOOX under the store handle go7. It is not the Go Color 7 or the Go Color 7 Gen II, which use a Kaleido 3 colour panel. BOOX lists the US standard bundle at US$269.99 and the InkSense Plus bundle at US$302.99, with Hong Kong-region variants at US$249.99 and US$279.99; TechRadar recorded US$295.99 in January 2026, so the official price has come down since launch. The InkSense Plus stylus costs US$45.99 standalone, and the bundle premium is US$33.00.
