Summary
A low-cost Hall-effect auto bed leveling probe sold as a BLTouch-style kit, not a genuine ANTCLABS BLTouch. Check board and firmware compatibility before buying: it needs a matching 5 V control pin, trigger input and Marlin or Klipper configuration, and Geeetech states no Klipper support.
Strengths
- Probes non-metal beds such as glass, PEI and metal, unlike fixed-distance inductive sensors.
- Affordable entry cost: $19.90 factory standard sensor versus $34.99 genuine ANTCLABS BLTouch v3.1 at Filastruder.
- Automatic point sampling reduces manual Z adjustment across multiple XY positions after correct installation.
- Self-test and alarm, including flashing fault indicator and manual deploy/alarm reset commands.
- Documented Marlin M48 and Klipper PROBE_ACCURACY tests let the buyer evaluate their own installation.
- One October 2021 Voxelab Aquila owner reported using the regular Geeetech 3.2 with great success.
Weaknesses
- Nozzle crashes into the bed during installation are reported, including a May 2025 A30M owner whose nozzle invariably struck the print surface.
- Mesh probing can stop with a blinking alarm after initial successful touches.
- Pinout can be swapped on some boards, causing power or boot problems until rewired.
- Clone repeatability may be worse than genuine and temperature-sensitive, based on older clone tests.
- No Klipper support per Geeetech staff.
- Bent or stuck plastic pin and blinking light are reported failure modes.
Verified specifications
| Sensor | Hall effect with an Atmel ATtiny13A controller, solenoid and engineering-plastic (PC) push pin. |
|---|---|
| Supply | 5 V DC, acceptable 4.8–5.1 V; about 15 mA idle or below, under 300 mA for about 100 ms while the pin moves. |
| Claimed repeatability | about 0.005 mm standard deviation. This is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement. |
| Wiring | three-pin brown GND, red +5 V, orange control signal; two-pin black GND, white Z-min. |
| Self-test | probe deploys and retracts on power-up, then solid LED; continuous flashing indicates an obstruction or fault. |
| Control G-code | M280 P0 S10 to deploy, S90 to stow, S120 to self-test, S160 to release the alarm. |
| Weight | 10 g. |
| Firmware | requires Marlin Configuration.h and pins.h changes for servo endstop, auto bed leveling grid and probe offsets. |
| Included gear varies by bundle; the Pro kit lists one sensor, four M3 screws, two M3 nuts, one metal holder, 18 cm and 100 cm cables. The standard kit’s exact present-day box manifest was not independently verified. | |

Identity and compatibility
This is a Geeetech 3D Touch V3.2 clone kit, not a genuine ANTCLABS BLTouch, whose current product is BLTouch v3.1. Geeetech also sells a separate 3D Touch V3.2 Pro at $35.99. Marketing and third-party kit titles sometimes use BL Touch for compatibility even when the brand is Geeetech. Verify SKU 700-001-1786 on the listing. The probe needs a matching board pinout and firmware; an A30 owner reported only a 3-pin header while the sensor has three-plus-two connectors. Boards with a large capacitor of 1 uF or more in the end-stop input circuit are not supported without a wiring workaround.
Repeatability and owner experience
The only measured repeatability data found is one RepRap owner’s M48 test showing an average standard deviation of 7.4 um (sd 2 um) in high-speed mode after fixing a loose magnet in the probe pin. That same defect caused random failures and red blinking before repair. Owner sentiment is mixed: some report good results and sturdier-than-genuine hardware, while others report multi-day setup failures and head crashes. A 2019 comparison of a different clone against a genuine BLTouch found the genuine more consistently repeatable, but that clone was not this exact V3.2.
Mounting, firmware and day-to-day use
The retracted probe pin should sit about 2 mm above the nozzle tip, and the vendor’s older guide describes a sensor-body mounting point 8.3 mm above the nozzle in one example; these are different reference points. Marlin G28 homes first and by default turns mesh compensation off, then G29 measures or M420 S1 activates a saved mesh; save calibration with M500 when EEPROM is supported. Auto leveling compensates small imperfections only, so manual bed tramming still matters. Start G-code must enable the saved mesh, and re-probe after changing nozzle, sheet thickness or toolhead.
Parts and running costs
The sensor has no consumables, batteries or subscription. The standard probe is $19.90 before confirmed shipping, and a $24.99 four-bracket Ender kit is a different bundle. A replacement standard probe costs $19.90 plus shipping and tax, not a normal annual expense. The plastic probe pin has no verified OEM spare part number or US price; an ANTCLABS genuine replacement pin is $9.99 but is not cross-certified for Geeetech. No measured annual cost or typical failure cost exists for this SKU.
Is it worth it?
At $16–25 all-in, the probe is fair for the original standard sensor or a well-equipped V3.2 Ender kit if the wiring and mount are compatible. At $26–34 all-in, reconsider the genuine ANTCLABS BLTouch v3.1 at $34.99, especially if Klipper clone handling or first-layer reliability matters. Above $34 for the standard V3.2, the genuine device at $34.99 is hard to beat before its own shipping. A $19.90 factory sensor with $13.90 selected US shipping would land at $33.80 before tax, nearly the genuine price.
