Versions and authenticity

BLTouch is a family name covering Classic V1.x, Smart V2.x and V3.x hardware, and a listing may not state the version. Smart V2.x introduced red and blue LEDs for wiring defects and a plastic push pin; V3.x improved timings and PWM and has a push-pin stroke 1.6 mm longer than the previous version. Genuine units carry a QR code on the PCB, while clones may lack it and may not support all functions or Klipper queries. Creality sells BLTouch kits with firmware and mounting hardware that are not necessarily the same as a bare ANTCLABS sensor. The manufacturer manual index lists separate manuals by version, so matching the manual to the hardware matters.

Setup, firmware and reliability

Setup is the real work: firmware support, correct wiring and offset calibration. The Klipper documentation describes verification procedures for the control pin, sensor pin and probe, and documents recovery from inconsistent states with a reset command and, in some cases, adjustment of the top screw or magnetic core. BLTouch V3.0 and V3.1 may need probe-with-touch-mode in some configurations, and V2.0 and earlier may have reduced accuracy with that setting.
