Summary
A wire-free outdoor camera paired with a motion-triggered 700-lumen floodlight, sold for people who want battery security without running cable. Check before you buy: person detection and cloud clips sit behind a Blink Subscription Plan, and the camera needs a Sync Module 2 hub placed close to it.
Strengths
- Lithium AA cells commonly run well over a year, which owners rate above rechargeable rivals.
- Two-screw installation is quick, and the camera works anywhere without wiring.
- The motion-triggered floodlight adds deterrence and lights up the yard at night.
- The Blink app is repeatedly called clean and beginner-friendly.
- Person detection, once subscribed, cuts down on false alerts.
- A Sync Module 2’s USB port allows local clips without a monthly fee.
Weaknesses
- Image quality is only fair: TechGearLab found it soft, weak in low light, with off colors.
- Motion detection missed subjects at 15–20 feet in testing.
- Person detection and cloud storage need a paid Blink Subscription Plan.
- The Sync Module 2 must sit close to the camera or live view stutters.
- Recording is capped at 60 seconds, and all cameras on one hub share a single schedule.
- No HomeKit or Google Assistant; it is Alexa and IFTTT only.

Setup and the Sync Module
The camera connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi through a Blink Sync Module 2, which is required and has to sit close to the camera. CNET saw live view break down at 30+ yards and clear up at about 10. The module’s USB port takes a thumb drive for local clips, so you can skip the cloud plan. Mounting is two screws, and the camera runs on 2 AA lithium batteries included in the box, while the floodlight mount adds 4 D-cell alkalines. It works with Alexa and IFTTT, not HomeKit or Google Assistant.
Image quality and night vision
Reviews split. PCMag rates the daytime picture reasonably sharp with good color, and CNET calls it very clear for an HD camera. TechGearLab is harsher: soft, weak in low light, with reds reading orange and greens near lime. Night video is black-and-white, better than the 3rd generation per Tom’s Guide but fuzzy past about 20 feet. Two-way audio carries background noise from wind and traffic.
Battery life and running costs
Blink rates both the camera and the mount at up to 2 years on default settings, and CNET’s tester got well over a year from lithium AAs. TechGearLab’s constant-motion test with alkaline batteries drained 12% in 4 days, which the reviewer read as roughly a month and called the 2-year figure a stretch. The AA lithium cells are not rechargeable, so you buy new ones when they die; an optional Battery Extension Pack claims up to 4 years. Person detection and cloud clips need a Blink Subscription Plan: $3 a month or $30 a year for one camera, $10 a month or $100 a year for unlimited. Local storage through the Sync Module 2 avoids that fee. Blink.com lists the camera starting at $99.99, and Best Buy shows $54.99.
Is it worth it?
At $60 or less it is a strong buy for a wire-free floodlight camera, provided 1080p, Alexa-only control and subscription-gated person detection fit your setup. PCMag puts the street price at $69.99, in the good-value band. At the $99.99 list price the value is fair against 2K rivals like the Wyze Cam Floodlight v2 at $100, and weak above that. No subscription is required if you record to a USB drive through the Sync Module 2.
Which model this is
This page covers the Blink Outdoor 4 Floodlight Camera, which pairs the 4th-generation Outdoor 4 camera (model BCM00500U) with the Outdoor Floodlight Mount (model BAS0410U). It is not the standalone Outdoor 4 camera, the Wired Floodlight Cam, or the newer Outdoor 2K+ Floodlight Camera. The listing for this combo is ASIN B0DV4VRMND. The mount fits the Outdoor 4 and Outdoor 2K+ cameras; the earlier version was built for the 3rd-generation Outdoor.
