Summary
The BlackVue DR900X-2CH is a 2020-generation two-channel dash cam with front 4K and rear Full HD recording, built-in parking protection, and optional cloud connectivity. Check your installation needs: it requires separate rear camera wiring and external LTE for remote access, and no modern low-light performance.
Strengths
- Buffered parking mode with voltage cutoff and timing controls built into the camera.
- Cloud and remote parking monitoring when networked with external LTE module.
- Discreet body design with separate adjustable rear lens and quick-release bracket.
- Compatible with original BlackVue accessories including RC100F rear camera and coax cables.
Weaknesses
- Rear wiring requires running coax through headliner/door/tailgate area.
- No built-in LTE modem; separate ~$135.99 CM100G module needed for cellular cloud access.
- 32 GB card holds only ~1 hour 50 minutes in Extreme dual-channel mode.
- Average night image quality and noticeably worse rear footage than front.
- Short footage history on small cards; longer drives overwrite ordinary files.
- App-first operation with no on-camera display or touchscreen.

Image quality
The front 4K resolution provides good detail in daylight conditions, but the original sensor’s night performance is average. Rear video is noticeably worse than front, and the camera does not include sensor-level HDR mode.
Parking and power
The included three-wire hardwiring cable provides voltage cutoff and timing controls to protect the vehicle’s starter battery during parking mode. With the camera hardwired, it can record buffered impact events and motion-based parking footage. However, the system depends on the vehicle’s 12V battery and its cutoff settings; at higher cutoff voltage or time limits, parking hours can be short. Electric and hybrid car owners should consult manufacturer instructions for acceptable low-voltage drain locations before wiring. The built-in supercapacitor saves file state at power-off but cannot provide meaningful unpowered security coverage.
Cloud and connectivity
Local Wi-Fi allows direct file transfer and app-based settings, but remote access requires an external network route such as a compatible CM100G LTE module with its own supported SIM/data plan. The camera does not include a SIM slot or lifetime data service. BlackVue’s FLEETA Cloud offers free, Starter ($3/month), and Standard ($7/month) plans with different retention and viewing allowances. The free plan limits live viewing and event storage. Users must understand which clips are uploaded and what happens when the data plan is exhausted, the car battery cuts off, or the garage has no reception.
Parts and running costs
The camera itself has no required license for local loop recording. Running costs include memory cards as they wear, possible cloud subscription/SIM data, and vehicle battery energy. At nominal 12V, the camera draws approximately 5.4W during driving and 3.9W in parking mode. An illustrative daily schedule uses about 35 kWh per year at the camera’s assumed input, costing roughly $7 at $0.20/kWh. Official BlackVue microSD cards cost around $52.99 for 64GB, though compatibility with legacy models is not fully assured. The optional CM100G LTE module costs $135.99 plus separate carrier data charges.
Support and warranty
The original DR900X-2CH came with a one-year limited warranty. Current BlackVue policy offers two years for dash cams purchased from blackvue.com since January 2024, but older purchases and third-party seller purchases should be confirmed with their corresponding warranty policy. BlackVue may repair or replace with refurbished hardware, and if a discontinued model cannot be serviced, it may substitute a similar specification model. Out-of-warranty replacement is priced case by case. For used purchases, request original model label photos, boot-on demonstration, dated files, and seller return terms before assuming eligibility for manufacturer support.
Is it worth it?
Below $140 used, the DR900X-2CH can be attractive if BlackVue’s cloud integration matters more than modern specifications. At $140–200, it’s acceptable for a fully tested front+RC100F kit. Above $200–250, value is weak because VIOFO offers a newer dual Sony STARVIS 2 4K/2K package at $349.99, and a newer BlackVue DR770X family can be had in the $300s. Above $400 makes little sense unless there’s a verified unusual compatibility requirement. Modern alternatives include the VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH at $349.99 with 4K front + 2K rear dual STARVIS 2 cameras, and the BlackVue DR770X-2CH II at $362.99 for newer supported hardware.
Which model this is
This page covers the original 2020 BlackVue DR900X-2CH with front and rear cylindrical cameras, hardware model HiSilicon Hi3559-V100. It is not the DR900X-2CH Plus, DR970X, or a newer Sony STARVIS 2 front-sensor model. The front uses an OmniVision OS08A10 8 MP sensor, not a STARVIS 2 sensor. Retailers use different part numbers for packages, but the hardware is identical within the DR900X-2CH family.
